I am 25 yr old female, and have my surgery date for Liposuction of my ab/flanks/back/thighs in 2 wks.. Possibly side effects later in life due to lipo? 20 yrs from now, will I have any complications that may arise due to the Liposuction?
There have been no long term effects identified with liposuction, which has been performed around 30 years now.
The risks and potential complications of liposuction are short term and most are related to the risks of any operation: bleeding, scars, wrinkled skin, asymmetry, numbness, bruising, pain, skin discoloration, allergic reactions, DVT (deep vein thrombosis), pulmonary embolism, intra-abdominal penetration, swelling, unrealistic expectations and the need for further surgery. Most liposuction procedures proceed very smoothly, please verify that your surgeon is a board certified plastic surgeon and the operating suite is nationally accredited.
Good Luck!
Hi, I consider myself to be fairly fit - I am 5'4", 135 lbs - I work out 3-4x a week doing cardio and strength training. I am about a size 6 in US sizes. I'm considering to get lipo on my inner thighs, so they do not 'touch' anymore. I just like the skinny jeans look, and my thighs have always looked a bit thick due to that pocket of fat. However, after reading this forum (especially the "did you gain weight after liposuction"), I am hesitating on getting liposuction. I definitely do not want the fat to return, or redistribute itself in a different area such as my arms or my back. If my body does not need much liposuction, would that still pose a big risk for me? If so, I'll run far away from lipo... but if it's very unlikely that it would happen, I'll still consider it.
There is an unfounded fear regarding fat redistribution after liposuction. Let's stop the rumor train right now! If you have liposuction and gain weight after your procedure it does not go to different areas! You will still gain fat in the area of liposuction because there are still fat cells present. Liposuction does permanently remove fat cells, but not all the fat cells, just the excess fat cells. Therefore, liposuction is a contouring method, not a weight loss method, you will maintain your contour if you gain weight, it will not preferentially go to another area of your body.
If you maintain your weight after liposcution, you will maintain your figure, it's quite simple.
Inner thighs or medial thighs can be treated with liposuction. The results vary from person to person. If you have a small amount of fat in the inner thigh and are trying to avoid surgery, then I would recommend "fat freezing" or CoolSculpting by Zeltig. My results on inner thigh fat freezing are excellent and there is no surgery, anesthesia or down time. Sometimes 2 sessions may be necessary, but would still be less expensive than any surgery option.
How Do I Reduce my Underarm Fat with out Doing Surgery???
Excess fat in the upper arm is tough to treat. Surgical excision works well, but leaves a noticeable scar. Liposuction works OK, but does not tighten the skin and is still invasive.
Coolsculpting by Zeltig for the upper arms has worked well in my practice and is a nice non surgical option. The technology and the machine is new. There are 3 applicator heads available, non designed for the upper arms, yet the company claims it is working on a new head for the arms. If one of the current heads fits onto your upper arm, then you can undergo a treatment. It takes one hour for each arm and is not painful, you can watch TV or read a book while having the treatment. There is no anesthesia, IV's or down time, you can return immediately to your normal routine. To find a doctor in your area go to the Zeltig web site.
