IPL Was Unsuccessful for Rosacea Redness. Pulsed Dye an Option?

I have persistent redness in my cheeks and nose. I've tried 3 IPL sessions at a local business, with no results other than a patchy beard. I'm frustrated and I need options! I work as a Reserve Firefighter, so downtime is a concern. Do I have any more options? I've tried Topicals, Orals, everything! The redness is still at large. Thanks for your help!

A: KTP or V-beam beat IPL for redness every time

I do like the V-beam for scars and it obviously works well for redness in general, but I prefer the KTP Laser (Gemini) for treating discrete blood vessels and background redness associated with rosacea.  Either pulsed-dye (V-beam) or KTP are both far superior to IPL for targeting redness.  IPL can improve redness, but this will take many treatments and is really just not the right tool for the job.

KTP lasers are more likely to give you swelling after the procedure, while the V-beam is more likely to give you a bruise.  The downtime associated with either procedure is 2-3 days of social downtime (not looking perfect), but can be minimized by an experienced operator and excellent post-procedure care.  Good luck!

How Much Does Pulsed Dye Laser Cost?

I have cherry hemangiona on my mid-trunk, arms, and neck. Most are small and superficial. I am 29 (soon to be 30) and am concerned that they are indicative of a more severe blood and/or cardiovascular issue. I saw a dermatologist last year and he said not to worry - they are age-related. But everything I've read to-date on this topic suggest that they normally surface in in the late 40's if not 50's+ and are most commonly seen on 70-year-olds. I also have a friend that has a blood disease and she said that before she was diagnosed with her platelete disorder she had these all over her body. I'm thinking of having the hemangioma treated with Pulsed Dye Laser. How much does one session cost?

A: Laser treatment for cherry angiomas

The cost of treating red spots with the KTP laser or Pulsed dye laser depends on how many you have and how long it will take to treat.  In the midwest, for serveral "cherries" you are looking at spending $400-800, which could take from 5-15 minutes to treat.

Individual areas are easily treated with either laser.  We break down costs according to an estimate of how long it will take to perform the treatment.  The good news is, results are excellent with both lasers.  I use the Gemini 532nm KTP laser with excellent results.

Is Pulse Dye Laser Safe for Patient with Seborrheic Dermatitis?

Is it ok to get Pulse Dye Laser treatment for acne scars and rosacea if I have facial seborrheic dermatitis?

A: Pulse Dye won't cure the cause of seborrheic dermatitis

Seborrheic dermatitis is an inflammatory skin condition and results in the skin being red and scaly in certain areas, especially the face and scalp. The pulse dye laser (595nm) is an excellent laser for redness, but will not fix the problem. Your dermatologist can prescribe topical creams and lotions or shampoos for your seborrheic dermatitis, which should be under control before attacking the leftover redness. At that point, treating the leftover redness with the pulsed dye laser would be a good choice. I prefer to use the 532nm KTP laser for this effect because it is less likely to bruise, but either would help. Good luck!
