What Qualifies Someone for Financial Assistance with Liposuction Procedures?

i have had 5 kids and i just cant seem to get any diet pills or exercise to work for me and i am 25 an d tryin to have some areas fixed like my stomach, back fat, and maybe arms but mostly my stomach.

A: Financial Assistance and Liposuction

Dear LJDunn,

Liposuction and other cosmetic procedures are "elective" procedures meaning they are not necessary for saving lives or repairing an injury.  Therefore no insurance carrier or public medical assistance program covers the costs for these procedures.  You made want to contact the plastic surgery training program at a nearby medical school to see if they have a resident clinic that performs cosmetic procedures.  At these clinics, the surgery is performed by plastic surgery residents who are in training to become fully-trained plastic surgeons.  While the surgery they perform is supervised by an attending plastic surgeon who is fully trained, the surgery itself will be performed by the residents or fellows in the program.

Hope this helps.  Best of luck.

Am I An Ideal Candidate for Lipo or Tummy Tuck?

I am a 27 year old female. I am 5'7" and weigh 190. I use to weigh 250. I seem to have been at a plateau for the past 4 years and Im okay with that. But I have the ugly hanging pouch, and am only 30 lbs from my goal weight (I have very large breasts and thick thighs and butt so I know I will never be tiny.) Anyways, I just want my pouch gone and a flatter tummy. Am I a candidate for either procedure?

A: Tummy Tuck vs Liposuction

First, congratulations on your weight loss.  You have already addressed the hardest part.  I would suggest you try to continue to lose more weight to get nearer your target goal.  You may want to modfy your exercise and diet routines.  Our bodies, being the amazing energy conserving devices they are, are very good at adjusting our metabolism when we are losing weight so varying your routines often can help you get off of the plateau you mentioned.  Sometimes a personal trainer can help in this effort.

Second,  have you completed having children?  If you are considering having children or having more children, you may want to wait until you have finished childbearing before proceeding.

Lastly, from your description, liposuction would probably not be the way to address your concerns since it can do very little with the loose, lax skin you mentioned you are unhappy with.  A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) would be the preferred treatment.

Please consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss you concerns and the possible timing of any procedures you are considering.  Again, congrats on your weight loss and good luck in the future.

I Am 70 Male with a Beer Gut. is Liposuction a Choice for Me ?

I Am 70 Male with a Beer Gut. is Liposuction a Choice for Me ?

A: "Beer Gut" and Liposuction

Dear Gallo,  There are a number of issues that need to be considered before any plastic surgeon could confirm the appropriateness for liposuction to address your concerns.

First is the question of the placement of the fat.  If the fat is located under the skin and above the abdominal muscles, then liposuction may be a possibility.  However, in most "beer bellies" or "beer guts", the fat is located under the muscle inside the abdominal cavity and cannot be treated with liposuction.  The way to address this type of fat is through diet and exercise and there is very good reason to do so since this is the form of abdominal fat that is closely associated with increased cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other grave medical problems.

Second, because of your age, it is also important to know your general physical condition before proceeding.  This would require a full physical examination and work-up including an ECG and other tests.

Please consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon before proceeding and you may also want to discuss this with you primary care doctor also.  I hope this helps.
