I am 57yo female. I take 7 1/2 mgs of coumadin a day for a past DVT. I would like to know if I could be a candidate for laser breast reduction? Very interested in this procedure.
A laser is simply a tool. It really offers no advantage when it comes to a breast reduction. So you should not view this as a logical alternative. You would be well advised to have a vertical reduction instead of a traditional inverted-T, inferior pedicle procedure because the results are better and there is less bleeding. But be sure to go to someone experienced in this technique.
However, whatever procedure you have, you need to be off Coumadin for at least several days. This would be coordinated with the physician who is prescribing your anticoagulant.
Today, most operators perform breast reductions as an out-patient. At my facility, we use intravenous anesthesia, avoiding paralysis, and use compression devices to help prevent DVTs. With these precautions, the risk of DVT may be reduced to an acceptable level. In fact, I've never had a patient develop one after breast surgery.
Patient satisfaction is very high after this procedure. I've attached a reference if you would like to read more.
I'm 42yrs 5'3" 213 lbs. I'm heavier than I look. I truely look about 175lb w/ clothes on. I wear 38-40 D-DD depends on bra. I've had 2 children and off/on fluctuating weight through the years. My breast are heavey and hang quite a bit. I've been walking, exercising with difficulty cause of breast. I care more about myself every sinse I knew I was getting this done. Ins says the dr has to take 500g. He's NOT having to do lipo on the sides. About what size will I be lg C, sm C, or lg B?
The bra manufacturers have no standards for determining bra size. It varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. It would appear a 500-700 gram reduction would keep your breasts in proportion to the rest of your body. Make sure you talk with your PS before the operation so he/she has an idea what size you are desiring after the surgery.
24 years old, 5'8, 150 pounds, 36D+ bra... How much is a 400 gram removal versus 300 grams? My insurance requires 400 grams/breast to cover the procedure (based on body surface area). If I'm a snug 36D, what cup would I be after? Secondly, If I lose 10 pounds, I'd only need 300 grams removed. What size would that be? I don't want to be too small. Ideally I'd like a C cup.
The insurance industry has made a mess of breast reduction surgery. Some insurance companies cover it, some do not. The ones that do, make up their own rules on who qualifies and under what parameters.
Your picture shows D cup size breasts, to take you to a C cup would probably require about a 200 gram reduction. I would call it a small breast reduction or even a mastopexy procedure. DO NOT let the insurance company dictate how much breast tissue to remove, if you have a 400 gram reduction, you will be much smaller than you want and now you will be looking at a breast enhancement to correct the problem.
Either pass on the procedure or just pay out of pocket, ask your PS what the cost would be for a cosmetic breast reduction. You might be surprised at the cost and then you and your PS can pick any size you want!!!!!!
Good Luck,
