Is it true that even if a umbilical hernia is fixed, it can come back? My doctor told me he fixed my umbilical hernia but in rare cases it can come back?, is there anything that can be done to prevent this?
Umbilical hernias can recur. The recurrence rate is higher for larger hernias fixed with sutures alone. I would suggest to your physician using a mesh plug for larger defects.
Are there times after the recovery period has ended that a patient may want to wear the girdle again?
This differs from surgeon to surgeon. I have my patients wear a compression garment for 6 weeks. Each week the patient can get out of the garment for 1 additional hour a day.
Had tummy tuck almost a month ago, at almost three weeks I developed bronchitis, will this possibly interfere with the internal sutures?
This certainly can be a concern during your healing process. Heavy coughing can lead to problems with your muscle plication. Work closely with your Primary Doctor to make sure your recovering from your Bronchitis. Make sure you are also wearing your abdominal binder religiously.
