i researched many dr.'s for my breast 'upgrade' and dr tholen was by far the best! he did a fabulous job on reconstructing my breasts! i had capsulasation on both. they were pretty bad. my breasts are now perfect because of dr. tholen!! he's a wonderful man and his staff is beyond fantastic! i have found the 'best" plastic surgeon in the twin cities!!

A thorough research process of the procedure led me to conclude that I was looking for a practice that included: 1. a board certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience in lower body lifts. 2. an office staff that exemplified a team approach to delivering excellent care in all aspects of the process. 3. the opportunity to have my surgery in a free standing outpatient operating facility. (lower risk of infections; surgeon and support staff are well orchestrated, efficient team in familiar setting). By choosing Dr T, all of the above qualities were quickly evident and my expectations exceeded. In addition, I found that I was treated with the utmost respect and dignity. Each and every one of my questions was answered completely, patiently and enthusiastically, both by Dr Tholen and his knowledgeable staff. There was a prevalent attitude that this group of professionals was proud of their quality care, and loved their jobs. Happy workers make happy patients! I felt totally prepared for what the operation and recovery would be like. Dr T delivers care that is based on sound evidence leading to predictable consistent results - you will not find any gimmicky gadgets or procedures that are experimental or merely for marketing purposes. I have quite a bit of experience with behind the scenes doctors offices, and this one is the real deal. The other practices with whom I consulted all had some good features, but Dr T's practice had the complete package.

The rating is at this high level because I want others to experience what I was lucky enough to experience. I know this is a big decision to make in a person's life and high amounts of anxiety come with it. However, I want everyone to understand the positive experience I had because it makes all the difference. I have been and will continue to recommend Dr. Tholen to others. I found Dr. Tholen's practice after reviewing many plastic surgeons on the internet. For many years I have wanted to get this procedure done but couldn't find anyone I trusted or felt good enough about to follow through with it, until I met Dr. Tholen. After speaking with him and his office, it was clear to me without a doubt I was going to make the 10 hour trip through multiple states because I knew this is where I would find the best care available. He answered all questions and concerns I had. He discussed all areas of the surgery and put my mind at ease regarding normal concerns every patient has going into surgery. The day of the surgery I wasn't nervous, I was excited!! :) Dr. Tholen and his staff were personal and knowledgeable throughout my experience with them. They all made me feel so comfortable XXXX. Before surgery Dr. Tholen re-covered all areas of the surgery and discussed size again. He had a way of approaching me so I wasn't nervous or feeling hesitant at all. I was excited and ready to complete the procedure I had been looking forward to for so many years. After surgery I woke up to very accommodating staff that took care of me until I was stable enough to leave. Before I left Dr. Tholen checked in with me again to ask about the results to make sure I was doing okay. I could not be happier about the results of my procedure. The recovery was practically painless, there was no bruising, and I was back on my feet doing every day activities in no time. I have and will continue to recommend Dr. T for this procedure for as long as I live. As you have probably read in the other reviews, not only is he awesome, but so are his staff members. I knew I was in the right "hands" for sure when we discussed size. I knew basically what I wanted, I went through the "sizing" procedure at the clinic, after that I chose what I liked out of the pics on the website in preparation for my procedure. He assured me that he would send me home with the best fit....and he did for sure!

Dr. T is a consumate professional, with an unrivaled expertise. I had consulted with two other plastic surgeons prior to seeing Dr. T. At each of the prior consults I told the surgeon what I wanted and came away with a quote in about 20 minutes. My consult with Dr. T was extensive, 45 minutes, while he offered the procedure I had thought I wanted, he took the time to explain to me why this particular procedure would not give me the results I wanted. He went out of his way to educate me, make me feel comfortable, and more than anything else, provide me with correct information. Something neither physician had done at the prior 2 consults.

I was so very fortunate to have chosen Dr. T as my doctor for this monumental decision. It was literally transformative. The experience that I had with Dr. T and his entire staff was nothing short of excellent from the receptionist at the front door to the recovery nurse that helped me out the door. Everything in my procedure was explained thoroughly, by Dr. T. The actual surgery was totally uneventful and the recovery because of the expertise and experience was and continues to be a very positive experience. If you are looking for and expert to do your procedure don't shop just pick up the phone and call!!

From the first time I walked into Dr. Tholen’s office I knew I wanted him to perform my breast augmentation. Everyone in his office made me feel relaxed and comfortable, which was very nice because I was SO nervous, even just for the consult! Dr. Tholen took a lot of time to answer all of my questions. And knowing that he has so many years of experience in breast augmentation was really important to me. Also, I really appreciated that his office let me try on sizers at my first consult. It made it feel so much more real and that this could actually become my new look! Dr. Tholen takes a lot of pride in his work, and now after my surgery, I definitely can see why—he’s AMAZING!! I have never been happier with my body. I finally feel like a woman, all thanks to my wonderful surgeon. Everything went very smoothly in the first few days post-op, besides from the normal soreness. I’m now 12 weeks post-op and feeling great! I would recommend scheduling a consult with Dr. Tholen to anyone thinking about breast augmentation. I found Dr. Tholen (with Minneapolis Plastic Surgery) through the RealSelf website. After searching the internet for reviews & before/after pics on plastic surgeons in the Minnesota area, Dr. Tholen had many positive reviews, in addition to his credentials and numerous years of experience. Dr. Tholen also has answered many of the questions submitted on this website, which show his expertise and knowledge. After my consultation, I felt very comfortable with Dr. Tholen and Mpls Plastic Surgery. They have been very professional with every step of this journey, from the initial phone call with the receptionist, my consultation appt, and setting up surgery in the days following my appt. All staff at this clinic have been very professional, kind, caring, and patient with my questions and concerns. This was the greatest help to my choosing this clinic & Dr. Now that I am post-surgery, I can say with confindence that I would definitely recommend Dr. Tholen and his staff to anyone. Dr. T repaired a scar on my stomach that I was very self-conscious about. After having my scar repaired, it looks wonderful and I can't even see it! I have been to a couple of different plastic surgeons to discuss injectables, spider veins and arm lifts. I have had an injection of Sculptra by a spa and a nurse 2 years ago. It was a fairly agreeable experience, but there were questions that were left unanswered. Dr. Tholen covers everything you need to know. The clinic pricing is very competitive, too.

He came with solid credentials but I think he failed to describe pros and especially the CONS/RISKS associated with screwing around with the turbinates. There's a reason why ENT docs won't resect them...I should've consulted with one of them first.

Dr. T and staff, made this decision and experience a great one. Dr. T is the best at what he does, he has many years and expertise in his field. I was so nervous for the surgery and I was scared I would wake up feeling nauseous. I was so wrong! I woke up feeling good, no nausea or pain, so amazing how easy it was. He is so professional and friendly, I felt so safe and comfortable going into this process knowing that he was the best. He truly cares for you personally each step of the way! Dr. T is absolutely outstanding. Two other plastic surgeons told me they could not do the procedure without leaving large scars across my chest. Wonderful experience and results! The staff and Dr. Tholen are fantastic. The entire process was very comfortable and I knew I was in great hands. My breasts looked very good right away. I had no bruising or swelling. Within 3 weeks my breasts looked awesome and like I had them for years (wish I had pictures to post. Dr T and his staff are second to none. They placated me in meeting with me twice before I decided to go with the surgery (both free visits). After I was able to meet with one of his nurses and him I got sat down with his finance person who described to me the costs, options, etc. Everything was very up-front and there weren't any surprises. I'm only five months into having a full tummy tuck so I can't comment fully on the results as my stomach is still changing (which is a great thing). I can say that with my health history and expectations that I don't think there's another doctor in the state that could do the job he did. Great doctor, caring staff, good location, etc. Remember, you get what you pay for. He's a little more expensive but the results are worth it.

I waited until I was in my late 40’s to have breast augmentation. I wanted the science to catch up with the artistry. Once I decided to go ahead with it I did research on the internet and consulted with three surgeons. I knew right when I left Dr. Tholen’s office that he was the one. I felt so comfortable with his staff, the medical environment and, of course, with him. Dr. Tholen has that science and artistry balance. My main concern was that I would be partially aware of the surgery while it was happening. Happily, the anesthesia was a breeze. They are true professionals. The aftercare has been superb and having the augmentation was the best decision I’ve ever made. I would definitely recommend Dr. Tholen to anyone without hesitation.

Dr. Tholen is extremely professional, highly skilled, and possesses superb credentials, all of which I checked in advance. Everything is done in-house at their well-staffed, well-decorated, well-equipped facility. They never rush you or nickel-and-dime you while you're there (Dr. Tholen never tries to talk you into getting more work done--if anything, he tries to steer you away from surgeries which won't deliver what you really want), and everyone is wonderfully friendly. An excellent experience. However, he is very busy due to high demand for his services and getting a consultation took a while.
