Is Refirme Effective for Skin Tightening in the Jowls and Neck?

People in the media including celebritys rant and rave about refirme. Could it be that there is a monetary motivation for them or is it true? They are even saying that they see good results after the first treatment. Is that possible? It seems to good to be true. Is Refirme really effective for tightening skin in jowl and neck area?

A: Refirme is NOT surgery but can still give nice results

Refirme is a non-surgical method of skin tightening. One must first understand that these non-surgical methods of facial tightening like Thermage and surgery do not give surgical results. The positive side of these procedures is that there is no or little downtime. This allows you to have the procedure and then go about your regular business later that day compared to surgery where you can have downtime of several days to weeks.

Refirme uses radiofrequency and light energy to tighten skin with minimal discomfort. It can be combined with IPL (intense pulse light) to help with skin pigment problems. Most patients need multiple treatments to obtain subtle to moderate skin tightening changes. We offer our patients a complimentary refirme trial during which many note improvement in their facial contours.

What is ReFirme Skin Tightening?

Refirme was advertised in my local newspaper by a medi-spa for facial tightenig...will it work? what is refirme? a laser?

A: ReFirme and Thermage are non-surgical tightening procedures

Both offer radiofrquency technology for tightening. Refirme has the additional effect ELOS. The most important thing for a client to understand is that this is not surgery and one should not expect a surgical outcome.

The newest tips for Thermage allow tightening without having extreme discomfort. The advantage of Thermage is one can obtain tightening through one treatment.

Syneron's emax allows combination treatments. If a patient wishes tightening and has some browns and reds on the skin that they wish to diminish, this is a terrific treatment. More treatments are necessary to achieve equal tightening with Refirme. I find a series of 5 to be of most benefit. Unlike Thermage, where we give patients medication to relax them during the procedure, patients who chose ReFirme do not need this. Thus, ReFirme patients can drive themselves home; a major benefit for many.

Both treatments are progressive; where we see measurable improvements for up to 6 months after treatments. We have very happy patients with both treatments. Like yourself, we have many patients who have come back annually for repeat Thermage treatments. Clients see this as maintenance and as a method to hold off from surgery.
