I'm two months post-op liposuction on upper/lower abs, flanks, saddle bags, banana roll....when I exercise and do any kind of jumping motion, it feels like I have water balloons in my lower back that bounce up and down. It's really uncomfortable.
Is this normal?? My stomach is also still tender...it feels like a long time to still be having these issues.
While some residual swelling and pain can persist for several months after liposuction, fluid pockets are relatively rare. I personally have had fluid collections in the form of a seroma occasionally form after liposuction, but with appropriate treatment they have resolved.
Had liposuction of the abdomen about a week ago. If I haven't developed any lumps yet, is it likely that I will?
Lumps are a kind of generic term that might apply to a couple of different issues resulting from liposuction. For starters, there will definitely be a few areas of swelling and firmness, that might feel like nodules or lumps, these can sometimes last for up to six months afterwards. There can also be some small areas of residual fat remaining, that could feel like lumps.
Initially after liposuction, there is a lot of swelling and bruising, but as that decreases, you can start to feel specific areas that take longer to get softer and are less swollen; this might give the impression that lumps are "developing" when in reality, you are now able to see or feel them because the background swelling has finally subsided.
I had Liposuction of the abdomen about a week ago. I now have a big pouch above my pubic region. Will that go down?
This really depends on the reason for the pouch. Some patients notice a pouch after body-contouring, but this is because removing the fat in other areas has now made this area more prominent (i.e. now they can see it more easily). Often though, there is a temporary fullness due to fluids used during liposuction and due to the body's reaction to the surgical procedure. We sometimes get very fearful phone calls the evening after the surgery, or over the first few days, with patients worried about swelling on the pubic and "private" areas. This is a normal swelling and will often fade in less than a week.
