Confused About Units of Botox Received Previously Vs. New Recommendation, Am I Missing Something?

4/11 in Texas I got "10 units Botox in 1 syringe, 7 for forehead/glabella, 3 for frown lines at $25 a unit=$250, dilution ratio 4:1. Saw results I was pleased with (didn't know what to expect for 1st time but definitely improved) for 5 months. 10/2011 MD -recommends 20-25 units for forehead/glabella and 20 (total) for both frown lines so 40-45 total 'units'. Cost around $575. See everywhere that current recommendation is the norm. Confused by what what given in TX. What am I missing?

A: Botox units & pricing

The proof is in the pudding: if u got results & are happy with them, u have received the corect amount. Usually the total dose for the "11 ' frown lines is 12-25 units, depending on the particular patient. However , I do have a couple of patients that receive only 6 units total. Any higher doses, for them, lead to abnormal looks! In ur case, maybe u misunderstood the number of units used. Bottom line: you are happy with the results,[ & the total price is very reasonable].

I Am Scheduled to Have Botox on Monday. Is It Ok to Have a Flu Shot on Tuesday?

This is my second time getting Botox. The first turned out very well, but I did have a headache the second day. It it ok to get a flu shot that second day? Thanks!

A: Botox & the Flu vaccine

Dear 678Sandy in Dallas, TX: you can have your scheduled injections with no problem. Botox on Monday, & the flu shot on Tuesday. There is no mention of any interaction between the two injections in the medical literature, that I am aware of.

Are Other Muscles Creating a Lumpy Look After Botox? (Photo)

I've successfully had Botox on the "11's" for several years. Recently, after injections, I've seen a strange thing when I smile. On either side of one of the 11's, there is a finger-width raised area that travels vertically all the way up the forehead. It gives my forehead a "corrugated" look that I find worse than the natural lines. Are muscles outside the 11's area acting to push up the skin?(The other 11 side is fine). The area is not sore and the bumpiness doesn't show unless I smile.

A: Forehead/frown Botox

Dear Jack Grace of California: Very easy to correct with a few units in the "over-active" muscle [ the corrugator] on the side of the lumpiness.Men usually need more units than the standard amount used for females. A touch up injection @ the right site will restore normality.
