Resuming exercise, such as yoga, following liposuction and tummy-tuck will vary depending on the actual surgery performed. For patients who have a full tummy tuck where the abdominal muscle is repaired, most surgeons will restrict heaving lifting for six weeks. Low impact aerobics and stretching, such as yoga, is typically safe after 10 days following surgery. Many surgeons will error on the side of caution regarding exercise following surgery. In my practice, most patients are able to resume their activity based on their own comfort level after about 10 days, beginning with low impact aerobic activity and progressing from there.
I was feeling pretty good until 3days ago, not much swelling, pretty normal activity. Now when I sleep my muscles in my stomach get very hard and feel like they are moving to the point its uncomfortable and wakes me up.I am also more swollen now than 2-3 weeks post op. This week is supose to be my period week, have not started, most definitely not preg. could this swelling just be bloating? Belly button still kind of ooozing, and kind of looks like pus in it.No pain and no odor.Is all this normal?
Recovering from a tummy tuck is typically a work in progress. It can take more than 8wks to see your final contour begin to emerge. Muscle spasms, residual swelling, constipation, red scars, asymmetrical fullness, mons fullness, etc are not uncommon experiences for patients. During the initial couple months after your tummy tuck, you should keep in contact with your plastic surgeon to confirm that what you are experiencing is normal. It is very difficult to answer your question without knowing: when your drains were removed, if and how long you wear compression garments, whether or not your physical exam suggests that you have a seroma, etc. visit your plastic surgeon, he/she will ease your concerns. Best of luck. Dr. Renucci
Hi, I am 15 weeks post-op tummy tuck with an umbilical hernia and muscle repair. Tonight, I fell hard and for about 5 minutes after, I had sharp pains on my left side near my belly button. It is Friday and I cannot contact my PS until Monday, so I am concerned about how likely it is that I ruined my TT and what signs to be aware of that would indicate damage. Thank you very much the experts on this site are AMAZING!
Sorry to hear about your fall. As you probably know from reading information on this site, the rectus diastasis and umbilical hernias are typically repaired in multiple layers, so it is unlikely that you have "ruined" your repair. In my experience, many patients treat their abdominal muscles with care over the first 3-6months. Most limit situps, crunches, and core strengthening. So during a fall, you may have stretched or stressed the repair more than you have since surgery. I typically have my patients massage the area that hurts to desensitize the nerves, wear a supportive garment with even compression and call your plastic surgeon for followup. Best of luck.
