I have public aid for insurance. Do doctors take that for tummy tuck procedures or will I have to pay for it out of pocket?
While tummy tucks are not typically covered by insurance (they sometimes don't cover actual illnesses, much less cosmetic concerns) they may pay for a panniculectomy in certain cases. The difference is a panniculectomy entails removal of excess, hanging skin, but without the movement of the belly button, muscle/fascial tightening, liposuction, etc. In the past there was confusion over whether insurance may cover a tummy tuck due to CPT (billing) code discrepancies, but those CPT issues are cleared up now.
I'm thinking of having a Tummy Tuck, and I was wondering, how long would I have to stay in the hospital after the procedure?
I find that it all depends on the patient. Most patients do just fine with going home after a routine tummy tuck surgery. I use pain pumps that can help with any discomfort. That being said, the hospital I operate out of includes an overnight stay for anyone undergoing a tummy tuck. Most patients appreciate this. Unless other surgeries are performed, such as a breast lift or implants, most patients are safe going home after a routine tummy tuck...but life can be easier with an overnight stay.
I had a Tummy Tuck 6 months ago, and my belly button is very dark and big/swelling. What caused this, and can this be corrected? Is there a topical treatment that can make it return to its normal skin color? Would I still benefit at this stage from using a silicone sheet for my scar? Thanks!
There are many possibilities with your situation. First, the dark color could be due to your original skin coloring (nothing to do about this), postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (treat with skin lighteners like hydroquinone), or thick scarring (lasers and scar creams to start with). The puffiness can be due to an umbilical hernia, thick scarring, or other possible factors. It is important to consult with your surgeon or another board-certified plastic surgeon to make sure your result is as good as possible.
