Indentation from Shave Removal on Cheek, What Can I Do To Fix This?

I had a shave biopsy done on my cheek for a mole that was flat on the surface. It has left me with a round hole the size of a pencil eraser. It has been 13 weeks and still looks bad to me. Will this ever level out or what can be done to fix it with out having an excision done to correct it. One end of the scar sticks up a little more which seems to be making the shadowing of the scar more noticeable.

A: Shallow scar on the cheek after surgery

Dear Steph, I suggest considering a procedure known as "subcision", combined with a spot Dermabrasion or chem-abrasion. Your dermatologist/plastic surgeon can help you decide , after considering your skin type [ fair skin vs olive complexion]. A filler may be an option, after this maneuver[s]

What Treatment Would You Recommend for Ice Pick Scars?

I've been told they are ice pick but i don't know if all of them are ice pick or just some of them. I have a feeling I have a mixture of ice pick and boxscar/rolling but not sure. What treatment would you suggest for the indents? Is TCA Cross something I should consider? Thanks

A: acne scar treatment

Dear Hope11, the scars that show in the pictures you posted, would respond to CROSS technique, as you mentioned. Other options are punch excision, or punch grafting. Subcision can be done  for more shallow scars. Any of the aforementioned procedures can be later enhanced by a resurfacing procedure such as dermabrasion, sandabrasion, chemabrasion, or fractional/ablative laser. Your dermatologist/plastic surgeon can discuss which method[s] would be best for your skin type & your work/social engagements.

Can a Scar from Heart Surgery Be Made Smaller?

I had heart surgery last April. I'm 42 years old and the scar is small from the top but huge at the bottom. What can be done to minimize this scar and when can I seek treatment?

A: Heart surgery scar

The scars after heart surgery can become red, hard , elevated & wide. The earlier the treatment, the better off the results. A combination of intra-lesional corticosteroid injection & freezing with liquid nitrogen [cryo therapy], give very good results with barely-noticeable scars.
