I've had 2 children and my stomach was very tight before then. I'm a fitness instructor so i'm in shape my body fat is in the normal and my weight is fine, i just have extra skin that hangs.
I would say it depends on your goals. Your are not the typcial "ideal" patient for a mini tummy tuck, but most of the excess skin you have is below the belly button. It looks like you have a little excess fat above the belly button with some loose, but not hanging skin. Without a lateral view, I cannot tell how much laxity there is in the muscles of your abdominal wall, but I expect not much given that you are a fitness instructor. The question is "why are you interested in a mini tummy tuck instead of a full tummy tuck? Is it a concern about the length of the scar, post op recovery, money?
I would consider offering you a shorter scar tummy tuck with some upper abdominal liposcution, and try to tighten the upper abdominal skin by pulling on the belly button. The outcome might not be quite as complete a rejuvination as with a full tummy tuck but the cost, scar length and recovery would be decreased. It all depends on what you want. Good luck.
my trouble is my pouch on my tummy and my love handles. secondary- are my jiggly arms. I work out every other day and follow a healthy diet. 5ft 5 tall, approx 138 lbs, age, 52.
We perform fairly extensive liposuction with a mini tummy tuck. A mini tummy with muscle tightening sutures will remove extra skin and help with abdominal protrusion below the belly button only. We liposuction around the belly button where everyone has ring or circle of fat as well as the upper abdomen. This really adds to the overall results. We also peform mini mommy makeovers. In our practice, we always perform both.
My only concern is the very loose skin over my c-section scar, like 3 1/2 to 4 inches of wrinkly skin that I can grab between my fingers, and of course the stretch marks but I wouldn't like to carry a full tummy tuck scar for the rest of my life.
Will a mini tummy tuck be enough for me?
The lengths of the incisions from side to side (or hip bone to hip bone) would be comparable for your problem as seen in your photograph. Both would run above the pubic bone level horizontally. The amount of loosening from the pubic area above this area determines full versus mini-tummy tuck.
Mini-tummy tucks do not loosen the tissue above the belly button and, therefore, remove less tissue than a full abdominoplasty. Full abdominoplasties loosen the abdominal skin higher than the belly button, allowing removal of more skin, producing more tightening, and also permitting horizontal tightening of the abdominal muscles.
Based on your photograph, these additional advantages should be something you consider for the full tummy tuck. The mini tummy tuck may be a shorter duration procedure with less cost, but it will not produce the improvements of a full abdominoplasty. A one on one consultation with examination by a board certified plastic surgeon is necessary to help you make your choice. Good luck!
