i had dermabrasion done in early august around my upper and lower lips. i look worse around the corners of my mouth now than before. I now have deep wrinkling of the contour of my skin in those areas. Will this subside after I have completely healed or has the doctor damaged my face? There is not anything mentioned on the internet about these kinds of wrinkles as a result of the procedure. Please advise.
Your age is needed to properly answer. At any rate, if the lip lines disappeared with the procedure, maybe that put the focus on the other lines. Technically, the latter lines are too deep to be tackled by dermabrasion, & their best treatment is usually fillers.
I'm an African American and I made the mistake of having a full faced dermabrasion to help treat acne scarring. The results were devastating, I'm 31 and I have been left looking as though I am 50. What can i do to get rid of the severe post-inflamatory hyperpigmentation and aging skin? How can I now treat the acne scarring?
Dermabrasion, or any procedure can lead to increased or decreased pigmentation in african american skin. The good news is that the color changes usually improve slowly with time & proper treatment, which is usually conservative, ie non-procedural. The aging of the skin after dermabrasion is extremely rare. We do the procedure to rejuvenate the skin in case of excessive wrinkling.
If your dermabrasion is fairly recent, improvement is the rule. Check with a good dermatologist to see about using appropriate creams to help with the color changes.
Is dermabrasion still the best method to reduce acne scars? My dermatologist recommended it to me and I think (or hope) that there is probably a better way.
A TCA peel using varying strengths of acids can have remarkable effects through an office procedure that is very cost efficient. Typically, the charges are between $500 and $900 for a 45 minute office procedure. This is a technique that when used properly can be tailored to individual pores and scars, instead of just blanketing the face with multiple laser treatments. Definitely, an underutilized technique.
