I had Sculptra injected yesterday in my temples, upper cheek area and it looks great, I know this is water/swelling and will go back down etc. However, I look like a chipmunk in my lower face as you can see in photo. Is this kind of swelling in the lower area "normal" for some people? If so, about how long until I can expect some relief and is there anything I can do to help it along? I have an ultrasonic (ultrasound) facial cleanser and know this is great for swelling, should I use?
I looks like you have swelling due to excessive bruising. I wonder if you avoided aspirin and ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin) before your procedure.
I would recommend you keep your head elevated at night while you sleep. Minimize exercise and other activity that will dilate blood vessels (such as saunas, steam facials). It will take some time for the bruising to resolve. I would recommend that you go back to the office where you had your procedure Monday or Tuesday so they can track the resolution of your swelling and take preventative steps in the future.
I had to have a short 5 day low dose course of Prednisone to deal with poison ivy. I had sculptra almost three months ago and had already seen filling occuring. Now just two days after the Prednisone, my face literally looks deflated. Is that possible? It was working so well.
By 3 months post your Sculptra treatment, you have had most of your collagen deposition completed from your treatment. I would be more concerned if you had the prednisone within the first 4 weeks. Also 5 days is a relatively short time, whereas a longer course might have more effect on collagen deposition.
The R.N. at the clinic has given me all info on Sculptra and she would perform the 4 proceedures I will need. Would her qualifications be enough to ensure a good outcome or should I use a plastic surgeon?
The makers of Sculptra will only train physicians-primarily dermatologists, plastic surgeons and facial plastic surgeons. Those physicians can then train their nursing staff. Sculptra is a great filler that is generally injected deeply under the muscle, though also above the muscle under the skin (subcutaneously). I strongly believe that Sculptra injections should be performed by the board certified physicians and not delegated. The more extensive experience of the M.D.s with their extensive training in anatomy is the key to success here. Consult a board certified M.D. in your area who will do the treatment his or herself. There is a listing of these physicians on the Sculptra website.
Hope that helps.
