Swelling After Bilateral Brachioplasty

Hello, I have swelling in my elbow joint which has started 6 days post brachioplasty, only in my left arm. Is this normal? Thanks

A: Swelling after brachioplasty is normal.

Swelling after any surgery is normal but it should be symmetrical on each side.  Localized swelling at the elbow is likely due to a blood or fluid collection from the surgery.  These are best and easily treated by aspirating the fluid with a needle in the office.  This may need to be done a few times to get full resolution.  Elevation of the arms and mild compressive dressings over the site can help speed the correction.   Make sure your surgeon is aware of the problem and your concern about it.

Is It Possible to Get a Second Arm Lift?

i had arm lift done 4 years ago due to weight loss, i have lost more weight, i was considering another arm lift. can i get another arm lift? i have loose skin.

A: Secondary arm lift is possible.

Yes, it is possible to have a secondary arm lift as your skin has become looser with further weight loss.  This can even occur in patients who have not lost further weight, as the skin relaxes after the first arm lift.  Revisions ie, secondary arm lifts are sometimes necessary to maintain the optimal outcome.

Bilateral Brachioplasty

Could a doctor please help me understand what it means to have a bilateral brachioplasty?

A: Bilateral brachioplasty means an arm lift on both arms.

Bilateral means both sides and brachioplasty means arm lift.  After weight loss, patients can develop loose skin and fat which hangs off the back side of the upper arms.  Commonly referred to as "Bat wings" they are corrected by a brachioplasty which frequently combines liposuction with resection of the excess skin to leave an thinner, improved arm contour.
