whats the secret to minimizing bruises from wrinkle injections like juvederm or restylane? Should I apply ice to the area of injection?
2 Two tips for limiting bruising after injections have really helped my patients eliminate any downtime - avoid aspirin products for 10 days prior to the injection appointment (Advil, Motrin, ibuprofen, aspririn), and take Arnica Montana. Arnica is a micronutrient vitamin that has been shown to reduce bruising.
I am 28 years old. My skin is in good shape, aside form this one inch long horizontal line above my lip. I am not a smoker, it is definitely from my smile. A doctor once recommended a botox/filler combo, but I am terrified to use botox in that area. Would a filler such as Juvaderm be good for that? Again the line is about one inch long and horizontal. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
I have been extremely pleased with the results of hyaluronic acid gel / Juvederm in treating lip lines and for lip enhancements for patients of all ages. Your horizontal line should be no exception. It is a simple and easy procedure to undergo, taking just moments to perform in the office. Enjoy!
From what i can tell juvederm is maybe better than restylane because it lasts longer. Is this true? Are there other things i should take in to account before choosing juvederm or restylane?
As you can read elsewhere, Restylane and Juvederm are head-to-head competitors vying for the largest piece of the dermal filler pie. Although Restylane has been FDA approved in the US longer (since 2003) and Juvederm since 2006, they are actually quite similar.
Each is a non-animal derived hyaluronic acid that lasts about 6-8 months and are safe for use in the entire face. Each also has a big brother that lasts longer (Perlane, Juvederm Ultra Plus).
Medicis (the maker of Restylane) may be releasing a version of Restylane with a touch of local anesthetic in it, which may be a wonderful addition to the injectable menu, so watch out for this!
One thing is for sure...you will find patients who prefer one over the other, and you will find physicians who have a similar bias. But each can do the job well when used in skilled hands.
