Training in cosmetic surgery does nor guarantee that the surgeon is a well trained plastic surgeon. The approval of the American Board of Plastic Surgery means the surgeon has studied general surgery and or head and neck surgery prior to training in plastic surgery. This usually constitutes eight to ten years of training after medical school and extensive examinations to ensure the individuals is qualified to perform the surgical procedure.
