I was hurt in 2008 at work lifting some heavy stone. I tore my rotator and labrum and had surgery in 2009. I also had a pop in my right pec that went from the nipple to almost under my arm. The area was 2 to 3 times the size of my left pec and black and blue for a few weeks. The swelling went down after about 6 months, but is still bigger than the left. My doctor sent me to a cosmetic surgeon that was unsure and said i may have damaged the pec minor, but also it looked like gynecomastia.
It sounds as though you may have ruptured part of your chest muscles. They then balled up can are causing your gynecomastia. The treatment may involve slightly larger scars, but the excess muscle may be amenable to excision in order to improve the appearance of your chest.
There is a teaching hospital in my city which offers affordable plastic surgery, where I had a consultation with a resident who I really liked. If I choose to have surgery there, the resident would be supervised by a very well-known, board-certified NYC plastic surgeon during the surgery.
Are the results that one gets from this type of setup comparable to those you would get in a non-teaching setting? Are there greater rates of complications when (supervised) residents perform your surgery?
Believe it or not, I would ask the resident to show you some of his or her before and after pictures. If none are provided, you are taking a slight risk with your results, but for the most part patients are very pleased at teaching hospitals.
Possible to perform Gynecomastia surgery under local anesthesia? It's a mild case. Slightly elevated breast+nipples. I know some doctors excuse is compromised results but it's just fat removal no sculpting involved
If your gynecomastia doesn't require extensive skin excision, you may be a great candidate to have your surgery done under twilight with local anesthesia. In fact, this is very commonly done.
