How can a pixie ear be corrected? Can it be made to look like the other normal ear, or does the other ear need to be fixed as well to match the corrected pixie ear?
Yes, pixie ears can be corrected in the office under local anesthesia. The skin around the earlobe is rotated in such a way as to help create a more normal appearing earlobe. Pixie ears can result after a facelift, necklift, or trauma to the earlobes. The procedures to correct it are usually very successful. Good luck!
I know that an otoplasty will make the ears look better, but does this also help improve hearing?
Usually no...performing surgery to improve ear aesthetics will most likely not help hearing. However, if significant reconstruction is done on the uppermost portion of the ear then sounds may travel to the eardrum better.
I want to make my ears a lot smaller, and I was just wondering how the procedure goes. And if so, how much would it cost?
Ears can be made smaller, from the top down to the earlobes. The procedure is usually done as an outpatient and it's very well tolerated. The cost varies depending on what you would like to do surgically, but the range is usually between $1,000-$5,000. Earlobe reductions can even be done in the office under local anesthesia only.
