Getting Revision Rhino Next Month, Wondering if It's Worth Getting a Small Chin Implant? (photo)

I am getting revision rhinoplasty to fix a bad job caused my septum to totally collapse. Also the original work made it way to feminine. I know it's not easy to just imagine, but the nose is just going to be more of a right triangle as a opposed to the slide it is now. When I look at my profile i notice that harmony between my chin and nose is minimal, and I fear that after surgery the chin will look even smaller. Would it make sense to get a chin implant?

A: Chin Implant with Rhinoplasty Surgery

Chin augmentation with an implant is commonly performed in conjunction with rhinoplasty for appropriate patients. Typically, the implant is made of silicone and placed via a small incision under the chin. A weak or small chin will make a nose appear larger, while a strong or large chin may make the nose appear smaller. Both appropriate men and women can benefit from a chin implant, but men usually require a larger implant.

Based on the photographs provided, you might be a candidate for chin augmentation. However, it's difficult to determine without a comprehensive evaluation. Many plastic surgeons utilize computer simulation to help give you an idea how a chin implant may change your appearance. Speak with your rhinoplasty surgeon who would be able to place an implant at the same time as the revision rhinoplasty. Best of luck.

Considering Chin Implant, But I Want a Second Opinion. (photo)

I am getting rhinoplasty, and the surgeon mentioned that my chin would look better projected more. I knew it always looked a little off, but I just thought it was the length and angle of my neck that bothered me. I don't know anything about chin implants, and was curious if one would improve my profile.

A: Chin implant with rhinoplasty

Based on the profile photo that you have provided a chin implant is certainly an option for you.  I do perform chin implant placement along with rhinoplasty in about  3-5% of patients requesting rhinoplasty.  I am certain that other rhinoplasty patients would also benefit from a chin implant, but, there are both surgical and financial constraints preventing them from moving forward on the chin implant procedure.  In your case, I would suggest only a small chin/pre-jowl implant to bring your chin profile more in line with your lips and the projection of your nose.  The chin implant will also strengthen your jaw on front view.  Less is always better with permanent facial implants.

If I have a 1.5 Year Old Chin Implant Removed Will Face Return to Its Original Shape?

I feel that my smile is unnatural and my bottom lip looks too tight. I feel I've given enough time to adjust to it and am just not that pleased. If I have it removed will my chin go back to it's original shape and how long for this? I'm thinking of having it removed and just getting a filler injected in this area to add projection. Thank you

A: Results after Chin Implant Removal

Hi jnnibck,

Chin implants are a great option to help augment the chin and balance the face. However, some patients request removal of the silicone implant for many reasons. Generally, the chin and face should return back to its pre-implant condition. However, the final appearance can be quite variable. Options to re-augment the chin after implant removal could be a sliding genioplasty (chin bone advancement) or filler injections. Only after a comprehensive evaluation can a facial surgeon help determine appropriate options for you. Best of luck.
