I've done a lot of research, but I'm not sure how difficult the procedure would be. Please review my picture and give me an idea. Thank you!
Dorsal hump reduction is one of the most commonly performed maneuvers in rhinoplasty surgery and it is usually not complicated. Occasionally, this is the only thing that is needed during the procedure. In my opinion, based on the somewhat distant photograph, the angle that your lip forms with your nose is very good. I would not recommend shortening the nose (elevating the nasal tip) since this could cause excessive nostril show on the frontal view.
I had an open primary Rhinoplasty 6 mos. ago, and my tip is still pretty stiff and swollen. My ps placed a strut graft in my columella, narrowed my nose and removed a bone spur, which was blocking my airway. He said, this will all soften with time and that my columella will eventually return to normal. Is this really the case? It's been 6 mos. and no change! I'm afraid that my columella/tip will remain firm and swollen looking. I had two steroid shots because of thick skin!
I agree with the other doctors as well. Swelling in this area is notorious for taking its time. That being said, though, a strut may always feel a bit stiffer than it did before any surgery. Since the strut is typically from septal cartilage it wont bend as easily, which is the idea. I would give it 6 more months and see how it goes.
How Simple is a Procedure to Reduce a Dorsal Hump Very Slightly, Maintaining my General Nose?
Reducing a dorsal hump during a rhinoplasty is one of the most common maneuvers performed to improve the aesthetics of the nose and is relatively straight-forward. It would be helpful to see a profile photograph of your nose in order to render an opinion on how extensive a change it might be. Based on the photos you have submitted, you might also be a candidate for slight shortening the nose to elevate the tip somewhat.
