Mixed race (black/white) used to be 185lbs,5ft 7in.Suffering from extreme back pain.Am now considering breast reduction after losing 10kl(about 20lbs)to help relieve back pain.
I have operated on many African american pts for breast reductions surgery. There is definitely a higher incidence of hypertrophic scarring in this patient population, but i would say that despite this the vast majority of breast reduction patients are happy to have had the surgery irregardless of the scars. Especially given your severe back pain, it sounds like the sur very will be worth it for you. Good luck!
Are younger patients more ideal for liposuction to reduce breast size without a breast lift? What other factors are considered?
Liposuction is great to remove fat. Much of the breast does contain fat in moderate to large breasts, especially in older women. However, most women want a breast lift while we are reducing the weight and volume of the breasts during a breast reduction. For that, just like for a breast lift, we need to make incisions so that we can raise the nipple higher and tighten the skin brassiere. The scars are a tradeoff for the shape.
I have infections under my breast often. Would my insurance cover this issue ?
Recurrent rashes under the breasts may qualify your breast reduction for insurance coverage. It is best if you have documentation of seeking medical care for these rashes, such as a doctor's note or a record of prescription medications for the rashes. The strongest criteria for insurance coverage of a breast reduction is a documented history of back pain not responding to other treatments and an operative plan to remove a significant weight of breast tissue per breast (google 'Schnur scale').
