Lip Augmentation Gave Me a Crooked Smile. What Should I Do?

I had a lip-filler injected above my upper lip last Tuesday, with good results, although my lip sticks out farther on its left side. I had it done to rejuvenate my "smoker-lips". I don't recall what kind of filler my doctor administered, but my lips are still tender from the injection. Will this even out or do I have to go back to her to get the right side filled more? The lines on my lips look better but my smile is crooked. I can't even wear lipstick, as it makes it more obvious.

A: Tincture of Time

Although frustrating, give it more time.  Usually in about 10 days (occasionally longer), inconsistencies in lip volume after Restylane (or Juvederm) lip augmentation work themselves out.  After 10 days, if there is still a prominent difference, I'd advise some very gentle thumb and forefinger massage to the plump area.  This usually works the volume discrepancy out nicely.  The only exception to this is when I see a prominent bruise in the area of the lump.  Bruising usually connotes a small hematoma (collection of blood) that just needs to resolve naturally.  Massaging a hematoma is probably not going to help with product redistrubution.  Good luck!

Help with Uneven Lip Augmentation

I got juvederm put in my lips to get rid of the smokers lines around my mouth. the dr decided to make my bottom lip fuller and says it would look more natural. now 4 days later my top lips are uneven and my bottom lip has a huge bump in the middle and looks overdone. I've gone back to the dr but he is away for another week. the staff said they could do anything for me anyway. i suggested the enzyme to break it up but they still can't put it in for a week. is this true? i need help i look rediculous!

A: Lip Augmentation

Being patient is very difficult when you are unhappy with the results.  The swelling can take up to 2 full weeks to subside.  Also the bump you are experiencing in the bottom lip may be a hematoma which can take even longer.  Definitely, go back to the injectiny physician/injector for evaluation.  Try to be patient and not jump right in to using hyaluronidase.  Many patients are very please if they wait it out, we rarely need to use this in our practice.

Lip Augmentation That Passes the Kiss Test?

While long-lasting would be nice-- as would be low cost-- the most important factor for me is natural looking and feeling lips. My friend calls this the Kiss Test. Passing the kiss test means that your kissing partner doesn't notice an unnatural lip texture. Which lip enhancement treatments are most natural feeling and pass the kiss test?

A: Kiss test passes with certain fillers

Hyaluronic gels (Restylane and Juvaderm) are the the most accessable fillers and will pass the Kiss test. Fascian, micronized cadaveric fascia, was another great product in terms of a natural feel but is no longer available. Fat grafting has a natural feel but is technique sensative and can lead to asymmetry. An alloderm implant has a natural feel with decent long term results but causes more short term down time due to swelling. Avoid Radiasse as it can get lumpy. Gortex is too firm and has a high extrusion or spitting out rate.
