Does Liposuction to the Upper Abdomen Prior to a Full Tummy Tuck Give a Better Result?

I have buldging in both my upper and lower stomach. I joke that I have two stomachs because I kind of do. My waist does not buldge like it does above and below. Would I get a better tummy tuck result by having lipo to the upper abdomen prior to my tummy tuck.

A: Liposuction before tummy tuck?

For a long time, this is what Plastic Surgeons recommended, feeling that combining the two operations was dangerous. Fortunately, that is not the case, and lipoabdominoplasty (lipo + tummy tuck) is a very common and safe operation. If you are young enough and have good enough skin and not too much fat, then liposuction alone may do the trick. But remember that if you think you'll need a tummy tuck later on, the scarring from the liposuction can seriously complicate the tummy tuck. You should see a reputable plastic surgeon in your area and have a formal consultation.

Can a Compression Garment Smooth Hips?

I am young (20), skinny, and fit but my hips have a "violin deformity". I would prefer not to remove the fat, i.e. lipo, but to move it downward so that my hips appear smoother. Would wearing a compression garment for a length of time solve this issue? Are there any alternatives to liposuction that would apply?

A: Fat reduction without surgery

Although long term compression can compress fat (like where the underwear elastic sits), this would take years. Unfortunately you can't really shift or visibly reduce fat with compression. While there have been several modalities that have claimed to reduce fat without surgery, the only way that actually works without surgery is diet.

Do I Qualify a Liposuction in the Calves?

I'm not sure if I can benefit from this procedure. I have somewhat thin ankles but right after about an inch up there is a bulge that feels like muscle on the outside. The view of my ankle from the back is the most unsightly view. I weigh 115 lbs. so I don't think it is a result of being overweight. Would Liposuction help me? Thanks!

A: Liposuction for calves

Liposuction for the lower part of the calves and above the ankles can be done to improve the contour... IF the contour irregularity or fullness is from fat and not muscle. The only way to know for sure is to see a plastic surgeon and let him/her examine you. If there is truly thickness associated with fatty tissue, then that would be possible to improve with liposuction. This is somewhat of a difficult area to treat. It is really a delicate procedure to remove superficial fat and to not cause dimpling in the skin. Make sure all your questions are answered by your surgeon and then proceed after that.
