I'm a 20 yr old woman I've had one c-section. I'm 5'6 150lbs I've lost 15lbs dieting & exercising but I cannot get rid of this stubborn belly fat & love handles. I'm really looking into getting lipo done but I'm confused about all teh different types Smart lipo, vaser, PAL, ultrasonic, tumescent lipo, etc & if I'm a good candidate for this surgery. I want to do my entire stomach, love handles & back. Thanks.
If you are confused about all the new terms for liposuction, you can forget them all if you find an experienced surgeon. There are many instruments available for liposuction surgeons to use. Experienced surgeons choose instruments they are comfortable with, and that provide the best results. On the other hand some doctors try to market themselves as having unique methods that somehow set them apart. I frequently lecture along with other highly experienced liposuction surgeons, and we continue to agree that liposuction under local anesthesia with small instruments remains the gold standard.
How long should you wear compression garments? I am having a lot of swelling if I don't wear one. Its been 19 days since the procedure. What should I do to decrease swelling and water retention?
I advise my patients to wear their compression garments for a minimum of 6 weeks, some patients even longer. This will help reduce your edema and improve your contour. Gradually increasing your activity as tolerated; this will also help. Your symptoms are very normal so soon after your procedure. Warmest regards, Dr. Pippin.
I had tumescent liposuction on my stomach and love handles 18 days ago. On day 16, I became swollen and sore, almost so much that it looks like I did not have the procedure. I also noticed some hard lumps around where my pants fall. Are all these normal? Does it get worse before it gets better? I almost feel like I'm in more pain than I was right after the procedure. I am getting my arms done in a couple of weeks and am wondering if the same thing will happen.
Minor lumps and bumps are very common after liposuction. Use of compression girdles post-operatively can significantly improve this. I often recommend compression girdles for a minimum of 6 weeks. The majority of these bumps will resolve over time. Ask you surgeon on your next visit if the swelling is abnormal.
