My son had a mole removed from his lower cheek/jaw area. It was removed via punch biopsy, stitches removed after 7 days. part of the mole is still there, along with a reddish mark, making the site appear more noticeable than the scar. I feel bad about this, the derm said that it will fade(the reddish area) in a year, but he wouldnt do anything about the remaining mole. The remaining part of the mole is slightly raised, making thwe reddish area appear indented...please help
The reddish area (post-inflammatory erythema) should clear over 6-12months, and the area will become less noticeable as this redness fades. The residual mole sounds like the area of most concern at this time to you and your son. A simple excision with proper aesthetic closure is probably best-- and this type of procedure is quite routine for any Board Certified Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon. One note-- these procedures are easily performed in an out patient facility, and only require local anesthesia--- if the physician you consult with recommends general anesthesia, I would seek another opinion. He should do very well-- good luck.
My 2 year old daughter fell and hit her forehead 7 weeks ago on a sharp edge of our bed. The cut ran from above her nose just into her eyebrow line. We are looking for advice regarding scar treatment such as pulse dye laser treatment or other options to minimize the scar. I'm interested in determining if it would be best to visit a pediatric dermatologist or a pediatric plastic surgeon for this advice. I am also looking for a doctor recommendations in the north Houston area.See attachment. THX
I think early evaluation for proper wound care management is important to take care of your childs scar. While many scars are best left to heal and remodel on their own, some are better treated early, espeically if they show signs of early Hypertrophic Scar or Keloid.
Initial wound care management at the time of injury is most critical. After, agents such as silicone gel sheets or massage may help to soften scar, and good sun protection is important. Excessive sun exposure on healing scar can lead to permanent discoloration.
Some scars may require early Pulse-Dye Laser, topical steroids or intralesional steroids to prevent complications. Most scars do better with time, and watchful waiting is best. Other modalities such as surgical revision or Fractionated CO2 treatment may useful to improve established scars.
Be sure to consult with a Board Certified Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon who is experienced with scars and the above treatment modalities. Working with children is a unique skill as well, and having expertise in this area is always an advantage.
I had a tummy tuck and breast augmentation (no implants) in February and I'm using the lotion the plastic surgeon gave me, but wanted your opinion on what the best lotion is to use and how to use it for scar treatment.
