Can I Skip Radiesse in Nasolabial Folds if Injected in Cheeks?

I went for a consultation to get a filler in my nasolabial folds. The Doctor suggested to inject Radiesse in my cheeks instead. Said that they are little flat, and filling them would take care of the nasolabial folds, (no need to inject Radiesse in them). Does this truly work?

A: Nasolabial injections are over-emphasized

My compliments to your doctor. Because the FDA approves fillers in the nasolabial fold, that is all that can be advertised by the manufacturer. Revolumizing the cheeks is more important that filling the nasolabial fold. Advanced injectors always address flat cheek before filling the nasolabial folds. It is an "off label" use of fillers like Radiesse and Perlane, but it is very much the standard of care. Stay tuned for Voluma from Allergan that likely will be the first filler approved for cheeks.

Is 18 Years Old Too Young for a Chemical Peel?

I want to do a Derma Peel but some people have told me 18 years old is too young for a chemical peel. I have acne scars and a couple blemishes that come up often. My esthetician recommended the Derma Peel and she didn't say it would be harming for my skin. Will it leave a negative effect on my skin? Is it bad to do it at this age?

A: Chemical peels can be very helpful in acne in people of all ages.

Chemical peels can be very helpful in acne in people of all ages. However the proper type of peel must be used. You should see a dermatologist in your area to get the best advice on which peel would help you.

My IPL Treatment for Freckles Worked Slightly, Should I Continue Treatment?

hi i went for ipl treatment i have a very pale face with creamy like freckles(brown) and lots of them.i went for treatment , after my doctor gave me ice packs i was suprised as i didnt need them , some freckles got darker but i feel it was not worth the results. my face felt normal 10 min after . she did say it might not work on all people. im thinking she could have put it a lot higher, if my face did respond to low settings will higher settings have better results ?

A: Several treatments with IPL may be necessary to remove freckles.

Up to 6 treatments with IPL may be necessary to remove freckles. Many of my patients prefer a medium depth chemical peel which can do the trick in one treatment, although several days away from the public are needed for the skin to heal.
