I am neverous about the amount of time I will be under sedation. I know sedation is more safer than a general but it still worries me
IV sedation is not necessarily safer. I would not be at all comfortable doing such a procedure under IV sedation.
I assume you saw a Board Certiied Plastic Surgeon (one certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery Surgery). If you did not, please seek another consultation.
I read more and more about people getting a "no drain tummy tuck" but I don't see comments from Doctors as to if this is recommended over the regular tummy tuck. Are there Doctors in Illinois that perform a "no drain tummy tuck"? Are there additional risks to this procedure? Is there an additional cost to this procedure?
There are surgeons who are able to perform an abdominoplasty without drains. I tried the technique a few years ago but found that I was not able to consistently prevent seromas so I did not think it worth the extra time. Also, we are performing more liposuction of the abdoman at the time of abdominoplasty and thus have a greater need for drains.
So the bottom line is that is if your surgeon can get a good result without drains, fine. Just don't be the first patient he or she tries it out on!
After 4 weeks post op from a tummy tuck, I was told I had a seroma at my 4 week post op appointment. The PS had to drain the area using a needle and syringe. The Doctor ended up draining 600cc of fluids. A week later, I see the fluid has come back and it looks like it is going to be quit an amount that needs to be drained again. How many times will I need to get this drained? will this effect the outcome of my Tummy tuck results? IS this slowing my healing process? What am'I doing wrong?
This is a very large seroma volume. If you were my patient I would place another drain rather than aspirating the seroma 2 or 3 times a week. But if you do not mind the repeated aspirations that is certainly a reasonable option.
