Is it safe to use general anesthesia during submentoplasty for someone with mild cardiac issues (mild arrhythmias and mild to moderate hypertension), but well-controlled with medication?
This patient had an EKG that was normal and has clearance to have the procedure from her PCP. She's just scared of general anesthesia. Her plastic surgeon (facial plastic surgeon/otolaryngologsit from a well-known teaching hospital) does most of his surgeries under general anesthesia, and insists that it's the best way for this patient. The main concern is the effects of the epinephrine used as the local anesthetic (high HR etc), in addition to the gases that are used under general anesthetic, that may exacerbate arrhythmias or heart issues. Can someone help us understand this better?
It probably is safe to have this procedure performed under general anesthesia, but local anesthesia with sedation is another possibility which is often safer. A very dilute epinephrine solution can be used. If there is any question, on the other hand, you can always ask your cardiologist's opinion.
I'm a 37 year old male with a small double chin. I'm about 13% body fat and it's a low as I'd like to go. A recommended UK doctor suggested a single incision under the chin and Vaser Liposuction for the fat under the chin. My second consultation with another respected doctor suggested more tightening would occur with Smart Lipo (Laser) with two incisions by the ear. In addition to targeting under the chin, he would also go along the jaw/cheek to the corner of the mouth. Two different approaches and cheek lipo worried me. Does this sound right?
I feel that the operator of the device (i.ie. surgeon) is far more important than the device itself. I personally perform chin lipo with a regulat tumescent lipo technique and am pleased with my results. Ask to see pre- and post-op photos rather than being sold on a particular machine.
