How Durable Are Saline Implants if a Bad Fall is Taken? I Ride Horses and Am Afraid To Rupture Them.

I am a horseback rider & I compete & do a lot of jumping, not just a casual trail rider. My biggest worry is taking a fall & breaking the saline implants. They are going to be subpectoral. Falls do happen, not usually on the chest, but I am still stressing over the fact that I might rupture them. How durable are saline implants & can they withstand a bad fall? I haven't had the surgery yet, this is the biggest drawback for me, worrying that I won't be able to jump anymore due to the risk!

A: Implant Ruptures Not Usually Associated With Trauma

Most implant (both saline and silicone) ruptures occur without any history of trauma.  In fact, in over 25 years of performing augmentations, I cannot recall any which could be directly associated with any sort of trauma.  Most implant ruptures are due to small defects which develop in the seams of the implants and ruptures are due more to bad luck than to lifestyles.

With Breast Implants, What Placement Is Best For Me? What Could Cause Rupture?

I'm 18, 5'1", 112 lbs. I'm naturally a B cup and I'm considering saline breast implants to become a D cup. Should I go for under or over the muscle and would it cause the chances of the implant to rupture more one way?

A: Causes Of Implant Rupture

The cause of implant rupture is usually "normal wear and tear".  The defect typically develops at the seam which is necessary for the manufacturing process.  In over 20 years I have never seen a ruptured implant which can be directly related to specific trauma.  I am unaware of a difference in rupture rates related to implant location.

Do Small Implants Look More Natural? I am an A Cup Now.

Hello! I'm getting surgery in a month and I'm not sure about the size yet. My main objective is to obtain the most natural look. I am 170cm, my bra size is 80A or 32A, chest contour 76cm and breast contour 82cm. I'm planning to get 140cc or 175cc under the muscle, anatomicals but now I'm worried that they might look to separate o like two tennis balls in my chest. What do you think? I just want to get a size bigger and don't want to get big breasts, just my size but fuller!

A: Smaller Implants More Likely To Have "Natural Look"

I think that you are on the right track in thinking that a smaller implant is more likely to give you a natural look.  Implants of the size you have selected probably will not look like 2 tennis balls.  There are other variables which increase the chances of getting the result you seek.  I would also recommend silicone implants which also are more likely to provide a natural look.
