Do You Recommend a Lift Or Can I Do With Only Implants? (photo)
Full C want DD - would I need a lift too or would the implant correct the sagging? I also want them closer together, as of now my nipples kind of look AROUND you, hah.
A: Breast liftIn my opinion what you "need" depends a lot on what you "want". I have had patients with a similar appearance to you have a satisfactory result with just augmentation. Some patients who desire more change with the nipple position require a lift. Sometimes I think it is OK to settle for a little less perkiness to avoid the scaring that comes with a lift. Even though I do most of my augmentation and breast lifts all at one surgery in you in might be advisable to just do the augmentation, see how you like it, then commit to a lift once you know it is absolutely necessary to make you happy.

Is it Safe to Go Back on Birth Control Before Mommy Makeover?
I am due in March and have scheduled a mommy makeover in August. Breast lift, tummy tuck, lipo, and possibly implants. Is it safe to go back on birth control before such a major surgery? Is there any I should avoid? I would like to try something that is long term such as the Mirena IUD but I am concerned about blood cloths
A: Birth Control PillsAs you can tell from the previous responses there is a variation of opinion. I used to not ask patients to stop birth control pills but after having a patient who was taking birth control pills have a deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and some data showing possibly a 7 fold increase in DVT risk in patients taking birth control pills I now ask patients to stop them about a month before surgery. Especially for higher risk surgery like an abdominoplasty it would be highly advisable to stop hormone therapy since a DVT can kill you.

Havent Tried Implant Sizes Prior to Surgery Just Pictures, Is that Normal?
i have met with my DR for pre-op,he said he doesnt have patients try on implant sizes because it can turn out different once under the skin/muscle.i have showed him picutres on what id like to look like and told him id like a full C/D cup. he states on the day of surgery he fills it closest to what i request and also whats going to compliment my body. should i be worried about this,or is it common for DR's to not have patients try implants during pre-op/consult.
A: Implant SizeTrying on implant sizes prior to surgery in the office in most patients does not give an accurate impression of what that size of implant will look like once it is in the actual breast pocket. I think looking at pictures is the best way for the surgeon to know what result you are wanting and then the burden is on the surgeon to deliver that result. Using a temporary sizer in the actual implant pocket will then allow the selection of the correct implant. I personally think the only reason for a surgeon to have you try various implants and then have you pick is to shift that burden to you. If a surgeon does this and has you select the implant to be used I would suggest you find another surgeon.
