Looking Fatter After Liposuction?

I had liposuction on my Stomach and 'Love handles' 9 days ago. I'm concerned because of the amount of numbness and lumpiness in my stomach. My stomach also looks bigger, and the jeans I wore before surgery do not fit right now. I am wearing a compression garment and following all the doctors instructions. Is this normal? What should i do? I can still pull a handful of fat from my stomach, and the doctor said he removed 1300 ccs of fat. Please help! Thanks!

A: It is a trade - lose fat cells permanently- gain water temporarily

In tumescent liposuction, often several quarts of numbing water solution are infiltrated into the areas being treated. We always tell our patients we are making a trade- they give us their fat cells and we give them water. Its a trade everyone is most happy to make!

Depending on the specific technique used, you may have considerably more water present at the end of the procedure than the actual volume of fat cells removed!

If you combine that with the inevitable swelling anyway, its no wonder that your body will take at least three or more months to get to its destination.  Don't worry, you"ll get there.

What's the Best Type of Liposuction for Me?

im 5'2 i weight like 138 im not fat just on my stomach. I want sculpt my waistline and get rid of me belly fat.i dont want to do like vibro lipo bc my older sister did it she lost too much blood i dont want that to happen to me. i really want to use my abdomen fat transfer to my butt and thighs but i really want to get rid of the fat under my navel. Thanks

A: Your best liposuction will minimize blood loss and maximize fat transfer

Tumescent liposuction means using  a dilute solution of lidocaine to numb the area. It allows the procedure to be done without any need to be asleep. This has a great benefit in also reducing blood loss to as little as a tablespoon.

You would not want to use high pressure suction, laser, or ultrasound if you are hoping to re-use the fat cells.

Gentle low pressure suction will be kind to the fat cells aspirated and improve their chance of survival if transplanted elsewhere. This could be done with the body jet method, or even just with a syringe.

Losing Weight After Lipo - Exercise and Proper Eating Not Working!

I had lipo of my abdomen, flanks, back, hips and and inner and outer thighs done 4 weeks ago today! I am very pleased with the results so far because my contours look great. I've lost 13 lbs. from just the lipo so far. However, for the past 2 and a half weeks I have been eating very, very well (I know for a fact that I am consuming less than what I am burning) and I am working out alot (40mins-1 hr on the ellipitcal every other night), but I haven't lost one pound! Why can't I lose more? :(

A: Time is your friend

Congratulations! You look great! Liposuction in combination with excellent eating habits and exercise provides by far the best results. You are already heading there.

At four weeks out, there is still a considerable amount of water from the procedure your body hasn't yet shed. When this occurs you will see some pounds miraculously disappear.  Now you can think more in terms of maintaining your desired look, and dimensions, and less in terms of actual weight.
