Can Man Boobs Grow Back After Gynecomastia?

If I have a gynecomastia breast reduction for men, are the results permanent, or can the man boobs grow back?

A: Gynecomastia and recurrence after surgery

Typically once the excess breast tisse is removed the results are permanent. However, if there is significant weight gain or excessive internal scar formation from the surgery, it may appear that the gynecomastia has returned. That is not the typical outcome and once you have surgery you should expect the results to be permanent. As with any surgery there are risks involved and recurrence, although rare, can happen. Most commonly patients are very satisfied and happy with the outcome of their gynecomastia correction. It gives them much more confidence and a more masculine appearance with form fitting clothing or on the beach.

Male Breast Reduction Price

How much does male breast reduction cost? What factors influence the price of male breast reduction? Will insurance cover the expense?

A: Male breast reduction cost

Male breast reduction for gynecomastia is very effective surgery and has good outcomes. The procedure can vary from simple excision or removal of the excess breast tissue behind the nipple/areola complex to liposuction or a combination of the two procedures for some patients.

To determine which procedure suits your situation, it is best to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. The cost is related the extent of procedure you need. A simple excision can even be done under local anesthetic and can cost about $3000. If you need more extensive treatment or a combination of excision and liposuction, then the cost can be higher nearing about $9000.

Make sure you rule out medical causes for the gynecomastia prior to proceeding with the surgery. Insurance coverage is random at best. It is dependent on your specific plan, but the likelihood of coverage is very low.
