I'm considering breast lift surgery, and I've been looking at before and after photos. A lot of them include breast augmentation as well as lift, and I'm not sure if I want implants or just the lift. Should my doctor be able to show me photos of just a breast lift? And what else should I be looking for in the pictures? Scar placement? Or breasts that seem similar to mine?
It is true that many patients who undergo breast lift surgery also have breast implants placed to replace the volume they have lost due to pregnancies and aging. However, if you have large enough breasts to be happy with your size, then you do not need an implant. This is purely decided between you and your surgeon once you have had a full evaluation including a comprehensive physical examination. Your surgeon will have photos of each available - breast lift with and without the use of implants. There will likely be more photos with implants rather than without. The type of lift you need will be one factor to determine eventual scarring.
There are generally three different types and your surgeon can show you photos of each and draw them out for you on paper or on your skin so you can see potential scar placement. Sometimes you have to do a breast lift first and then undergo breast augmentation as a second surgery to optimize your results. Whether everything is done in one surgery or two will depend on your breast lift requirements and the discussion between you and your surgeon regarding safety and blood supply to the nipple/areola. Make sure you spend the time needed with your surgeon to understand the surgery and its risks and trade-offs -- especially scarring.
Hello, I'm 18 years old and I had a baby when I was 15. My breasts have sagged down and gotten a lot smaller I'm now at around a 36B or C. I'd love a breast lift and breast augmentation as well, but scared in case it goes wrong. Where can I find a good and safe cosmetic surgeon?
When choosing a plastic surgeon you can use different methods. First, make sure you are searching for board certified plastic surgeons who are also on staff at reputable local hospitals. Then, ask friends/family members and usually two to three names come up. I would also check with your doctors - family physician, OB/Gyn, etc to get physician referrals. You can cross reference these three methods and once you narrow the list down to 2-3 surgeons, then call to make an appointment. See who fits your personality the best and answers all your questions without hesitation. Also, make sure that they spend time with you directly and not their assistants. By that point you will have found your surgeon. Try not to look at fees or prices as your first line of making choices between surgeons. First make sure you are comparing apples to apples. Good luck with your search.
