I've heard about a procedure where my body fat can be transferred or injected on my under eye area for dark circles and hollowness. Is this safe, and will results be permanent?
I find fat transfer provides the best and most natural results for hollowing of the under eye area, and routinely perform it under a local anesthesia. I also find adding a natural blood product called Selphyl seems to significantly improve results, and adds some skin rejuvenation. Darl circles can be treated with a chemical or laser peel at the same sitting.
I am trying to fix some bad fat atrophy on my face and am looking into fat transfer. After reading lots of reports I can't find anything that shows any proof of fat survival. Have there been biopsies or other tests to show the transferred fat survives after transplantation? Or is microsurgery a better option?
There are several ways to assess fat survival. Post operative photos are standard, and taken from different angles, usually at 2 to 6 months. Biopsies are not done usually. A second transfer is often needed, depending on the area treated. I have found adding a product called Selphyl improves fat survival and now use it routinely.
I underwent a fat transfer to treat a recent facial wound. I am thin but curvy, size 2 or 4, with a very nice shape. However, now I have a dent in my leg! I also notice a loss of volume in my left butt cheek. I am very upset, as only a few months ago I had a beautiful face and body. I don't have any fat to correct the leg dent and butt volume loss with a fat transfer. All the fat I have is much loved by me. Are there other treatment options (such as fillers) that don't involve implants?
You have several options, including just waiting another 2-3 months. Some temporary fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, or Perlane will provide immediate benefit for up to 9 months. A series of Sculptra injections will provide a more gradual but longer lasting correction. Of course carefully performed fat transfer is still an option if you have adequate donor sites. Good luck.
