Can General Anesthesia 6-8 Weeks After a Hair Transplant Influence Hair Growth?

I'm planning a chin implant and liposuction. I believe it could be done in local anesthesia as well but I'd probably prefer general anesthesia. Now, could either of these influence the outcome of my hair transplant?

A: Hair loss and general anesthesia.

It is unlikely that local anesthetic given 6-8 weeks after hair restoration surgery will affect your results.  A common cause of alopecia is called telogen effluvium.  This condition results from an abrupt shift of large numbers of anagen hairs (hairs in the growth phase of the cycle) to telogen hairs (hairs in the resting phase of the growth cycle) on the scalp, with a corresponding hair loss of up to 300 hairs per day.  This form of alopecia generally begins about three months after a major illness or other stress (surgery, rapid weight loss, nutritional deficiency, hemorrhage, etc.) If the cause of the telogen effluvium is removed, hair loss lasts for up to 6 months after removal of the trigger.  That is, hair growth should return to normal.  Be sure to consult with a local hair transplant surgeon to discuss activities in your postoperative healing.

Hair Thinning Above Left Temple, Is It MPB?

This started after I used a oil, doo gro. It made my scalp burn so I got Head and Shoulders to wash it off after 3 months not knowing the cause. I used a comb to really scub my head with the shampoo and ever since my hair above my left temple is really thin. The back of my head was thin but it returned and also above my mid hair line but its reovering. My left temple however is still really thin, hurts, and has a couple of scars. I'm a 20 year old male by the way so could it be MPB?

A: Hair thinning over your temples

Based on your question, it is nearly impossible to tell what is really going on with your hair. Your best bet is to have an in-person consultation at one of our local or regional offices.  At that time, we can discuss your medical and surgical options should this be male pattern hair loss.  If it is due to trauma, we can also take a look at what has happened and make recommendations based on the examination.  Good luck to you.

Can Hair Transplants Look Natural? What Areas Can Be Used as Donor Hair?

Fine Hairs are needed at the sides of my forehead to make it appear that my forehead is less wide than it actually is. I prefer not to use the back of my scalp as the donor site. Are there any other candidates for this? Like maybe leg hair or even armpit hair?

A: Donor sites for hair transplantation surgery

Alex, thank you for your question. The alternate sites you mentioned in your post (armpits & leg) are not good sites for harvesting hair.  The density of hair is far, far too low to provide the numbers you will need for your hairline. The quality of the hair is not at all like your scalp hair.  You need to come into one of our local offices for an in-person consultation with an experienced hair transplantation surgeon.  When you look at our photos, you will get an idea of what we can achieve and how well the donor scar heals.   Our trichophytic closures will show just how imperceptible the scar can be.
