Mole Removal w/ Stitches - Scarring?

I have a mole on my right lower cheek about the diameter of a pencil eraser. It's raised a bit but not a lot. I am getting it removed by a plastic surgeon in a couple months but I am really worried about the scarring. The method is with stitches. Will there be a lot of scarring? Will it look worse than having the mole on my face?

A: Cutting out a mole and using stitches to close the wound will leave a scar

Cutting out a mole and using stitches to close the wound will leave a scar. Since beauty is in the eye of the beholder one cannot say whether a patient will prefer having a mole or a scar.

Some Pigment Left Behind After Mole Biopsy

I had a mole biopsied 4 years ago. The results came back that it was benign. It was a sort of shave biopsy on a flat mole and there is a little bit of pigment left behind in the scar. My question is: Do i have to worry about this pigment left behind turning into cancer? Can i leave it alone or should i have it "dug out" The biopsy was on my inner thigh. Thank you!

A: Shave biopsies of moles may leave some of the mole in the skin

Shave biopsies of moles may leave some of the mole in the skin. By definition the shave only removes the part of the mole that is above the skin and anything left behind may grow. If the biopsy is not malignant the remaining mole is safe unless it turns colors, grows, or bleeds.

Flat Red Scars from Natural Mole Removal (Dermatend)?

In March of 2010 I used a natural mole remover called Dermatend. I used it on three moles on my leg.Ten months later and I am STILL left with three noticeable, flat, red scars. I have spent countless hours searching for a way to get rid of these unsightly marks and have not found anything helpful. I tried to figure out what type of scar these are,but there is not much info on scars from natural mole removal.I also read about the pulsed dye laser but I don't think it works on atrophic red scars.

A: Redness in scars usually fades with time

Redness in scars usually fades with time. Some patients prefer to be proactive and laser therapy may be successful.
