I had cartilage excised from both of my ears and had the ears attached with permanent sutures to the head. My surgeon said that I should wear the headband for a month and I've been wearing it 24/7 for 3 weeks, with the exception of a handful of days. Do you think I could switch to night time wear only at this point without affecting the healing or the results?
Hi!
Thank you for your question.
I agree with the other doctors that it is best to consult with your
board certified plastic surgeon and follow his instructions. Wearing
the headband is crucial for the healing process and will benefit you
in the long run.
Good Luck!

Hi, I'll be going for otoplasty and chin liposuction in two weeks' time. My surgeon said it's okay but I was thinking.. For my ears, I will be in head bandage for the first two days followed by headband for the next two weeks. For my chin, I will have to wear a compression garment for two weeks. Doesnt it clashes?
It would be fine to perform an Otoplasty and chin lipo at the same time. The same garment can be used for both procedures.
hi i am getting ready to get married in september of 2011, i have always been self concious of my protruding ears, i recently went to have a consultation on otoplasty with a local surgeon he took 3 minutes to talk to me and did not answer the questions i had, he especially made me more nervous by tellimg me i cannot have it done now to wait untill august to get the look i want for the wedding because 6 months later my ears would look the same! i am going to waste $6000 for 5 months of happines?
Changes after an otoplasty should be permanent. Key steps that make otoplasty more predictable and lasting in some surgeons than others:
- Permanent sutures- Permanent sutures are best used in otoplasty. Absorbable sutures do not create lasting changes in the ears.
- Structural changes to the ears- Suture techniques alone do not create a lasting change to the ear. In some cases, a fundamental change to the anatomic shape is necessary.
- Postoperative care- Proper care can help protect ears immediately postoperative results.
Seek care from a surgeon whose practice focuses on face and with experience in ear reshaping.
