My doctor said smart lipo is much quicker recovery and all around better than liposuction surgery Is that true?
As a general rule, lipoplasty recovery is not very difficult. The amount removed, number of areas treated, and general health of the individual are more important issues in the recovery process than the form of lipoplasty method. The use of Smartlipo is generally for improving skin tightening in association with traditional lipoplasty. It can be useful for small areas that don't require much tissue removal. I believe that results are tied to the experience and overall skill level of the Board Certified surgeon performing the procedure, not the tool employed.
I am worried about having laser liposuction after reading about bumps and possible larger weight gain after the procedure. I am a thin distance runner but I would like to lose excess weight on my butt and inner thighs. Is this procedure dangerous for athletes? Also, what are the side effects for thinner people in general?
Being a marathon runner, I can understand your concerns. Most thinner athletes are ideal candidates for liposuction. You should be careful to choose a surgeon who is experienced with both traditional lipoplasty and laser assisted lipoplasty. It is likely that laser assisted lipoplasty will not be needed, unless you have been very heavy in the past. Obviously, I can't give a definitive answer about your individual situation without a formal consultation.
I had buccal fat removal done but it thinned my upper cheeks, making my lower cheeks look even fatter. I'm otherwise slender: 5'5" and 125 lbs. Also can facial liposuction be done under local/in-office? Can you recommend anyone in the San Diego, CA area?
You do have mild excess jowl fat and this can be conservatively reduced by using small cannulas under local anesthesia in a sterile office surgical suite. This is called microliposuction. I use very small cannulas with diameters of 1.2 to 1.7 mm for this. Minimal bruising and minimal discomfort are expected, and it is important not to over correct. Consult a qualified board certified surgeon, and ask to see before and after photos of his patients, because results do vary somewhat with this procedure.
