What is Expected After Breast Augmentation?

What helps to reduce pain and swelling and complications? Do many patients complain of severe pain? Do I have obvious scars? Thank you for your time and advices.

A: Breast Augmentation Recovery

The best way to reduce pain, swelling or complications after breast augmentation is to choose a highly qualified surgeon and follow his/her advice about what you should or shouldn't do after surgery.  The pain and discomfort varies from patient to patient but in general most of the pain will be gone in 2-3 days.  I encourage my patients to be up and about doing normal activities on the day of surgery while still getting plenty of rest.  Most patients go back to work within one week.  I don't allow any strenuous exercising (running, lifting weights, etc.) for 6 weeks.

The scars usually heal very nicely and become less noticeable over time.  Good luck!

Currently 30AA: How Many CCs are Needed and in Which Profile to Achieve D Cup?

I am 110lbs and 5"5

A: D cup implants might be too much

While going from an AA cup to a D cup is technically possible, it might not be the wisest choice for you.  Your board-certified plastic surgeon should be able to make a reasonable, safe recommendation on the size of your implants after your examination.  Your surgeon should also explain the long term effects if your choose a size that is too large for your body.  Some of these effects can include thinning of the breast tissue and skin, increased chance of implant visibility and palpability, unnatural appearance, stretch marks, increased chance of revisions, etc.

Don't focus so much on a specific cup size.  The cup size is arbitrary and will vary depending on the type of bra you buy.  Focus instead on an implant size that will fit your body and give you the best long term results.  Good luck!

Full Tummy Tuck w/ Lipo and Breast Augmentation - Is This Safe?

I'm 30 yrs old, 5'3" 130 lbs, athletic, and good health. I'm scheduled for May 11, 2011. My surgery consists of a full tummy tuck, liposuction of back, flanks, inner knees, and slightly around the inner thighs. Also I'm getting a breast augmentation under the muscle. Is that too much??? My PS seems very optimistic about it and has been practicing for over 30 yrs. He's also one of the top plastic surgeons in Houston, Tx but I'm still a little nervous about it. Is this common?

A: Mommy Makeover Can Be Done Safely

The combination of tummy tuck, liposuction and breast augmentation is often referred to as a "mommy makeover".  This combination of procedures can be done safely with the right patient, the right surgeon, the right anesthesia provider and the right setting.  It sounds like you are young and healthy and your surgeon has many years of experience.  The anesthesia could be general or IV sedation and the setting could be outpatient or with an overnight stay.  Be sure to ask your surgeon and his staff any questions that you might have.  Follow your surgeon's instructions for post-operative care.  You should have a good experience and great results.
