I had this done once and was extremely pleased with results, then the second time(last week) had it done at the same place but by the NP instead of Dr. One side of my mouth doesn't turn up and the other does! Help.
As others have noted, the neuromodulation effects occur in the muscles responsible for the unwanted lines. Around the mouth, the relaxation can lead to weakness of contraction which will soften the harsh lines. This may also create the inability to pucker, kiss, whistle, suck through straws, and may even affect speech and enunciation. Some patients report enough dyskinesis (uncoordinated movement) to bite their lips inadvertently. Your physician may be very experienced and best qualified to have you reach the right effects in this area. Otherwise, be aware of the potential risks and wait out the complications.
Can injecting around the upper cheek area under the outer edges of the eye cause muscle weekness affecting lower eyelid sag. I was showing the signs of crepey lower eye lid but it looks so much worse now after the botox because it seems my eyes are too weak to hold the skin up? Is this common? I realize that other parts of the look better but this was the second time I have had botox and didn't have this problem.
Aggressive injection of neuromuscular blockers in the cheek, usually for undesirable "smile lines", can cause sagging of the lower lids, even the inability to smile or an asymmetrical smile. These changes are usually temporary and should resove in a few weeks to months. In the meantime, I suggest you consider warm compresses to increase the bloodflow, facial smile exercises, and even direct muscular stimulation by tapping over the cheek and cheekbone to keep your muscles toned. You may even consider looking into the facial Yoga programs available. But don't overdo it, you may end up with more of those dreaded "smile lines" when its all over.
i had botox for crows feet, above brows and between brows 4/15/10. ptosis developed in rt lid 4/24/10. by the end of the summer, august, it looked pretty good. it has not completely resolved. my lid is still lower on that iris and the shape of my eye still looks different.have i had permanent damage? will exercising the lid help? desperate
Permanent weakness of facial muscles may be seen with any prolonged neuromuscular block over time. This is how we intentionally induce muscular atrophy of specific expressive muscles to clear unwanted lines. Atrophy will begin to show up if any muscle is not stimulated or innervated after 6 months or more. The persistence of ptosis or droopy eyelids is extremely unusual as the levator muscle of the eye is not an intended target, but can be involved with unintended exposure by injection. You may want to ask your physician for a prescription for an α2-adrenergic agonist, which causes Müller muscles to contract, quickly elevating the upper eyelid 1-3 mm. This may or may not be effective along with eyelid exercises in front of a mirror. Finally, permanent ptosis can be corrected surgically, but this would only be a solution of last resort.
