Want Veneers on Both Lateral Teeth, Do I Need Additional Internal Bleaching First? (photo)

Both lateral teeth grew in with white spots and now as an adult are much more stained than the other teeth. One of the lateral teeth has had a root canal and 3 or 4 sessions of internal bleaching, due to a cyst that grew right next to the root of that tooth. I'm currently whitening my teeth at home but am wondering if I need more internal bleaching of the lateral tooth, shown in the picture, before having Veneers put on?

A: Whitening Before Veneers

You shouldn't need to internal bleach -- however if you want ALL of your teeth whiter then whiten all of  your teeth before getting the veneers placed.  Looking at your photos -- I can see that several of your teeth are out of alignment.  If you perfect the only the 2 laterals -- beware the rest of the asymmetries in your smile will become more evident.  Right now your laterals stand out because they are the biggest distraction in your smile. When you get them perfected, the other imperfections on other teeth are going to stand out  more.  Only pointing that out so you know what to expect.

Which do you think should come first

I wish to have my smile "adjusted". I never liked the look of my teeth but couldn't avoid to make an improvement in my earlier years. Now in my 40's I can. I have an overbite, teeth are dull looking, I have fillings in the front teeth and 1 crown (the color matches the rest of my off-white teeth). I do believe that I have used tetracycline in my early years, so my teeth are not yellowed, more grey. In terms of procedures to correct all of the above, what should I do and in what in which order?

A: A Simple Sequence to Treatment When You Have Several Concerns With Your Smile.

First I would encourage you to schedule a consultation visit (Since it looks like you're in Atlanta, I'm here too, and I would be happy to take the time to see you and offer some advice).  At this visit we can have a look at all of your concerns and create a few options to reach your desired outcome for your smile and for your bite.  One option is whiten everything to the shade that you like - and then replace the fillings/bonding/crown to match that nice white color -- and it's hard to tell from your photo, but it looks like you might have other asymmetries in your smile...when you come in, we will take digital images of your smile and discuss all of your wants and needs.  We will come up with a few customized treatment plans, so that you can choose the best one that suits all of your needs.  You can call (770) 998-3838 or email me (susanestep@gmail.com) to get started.  I hope to see you soon.  Sincerely, Dr. Estep.

Veneers on Just Canine and First Bicuspids?

I wanted to know if it would look normal to get veneers strictly on my canine teeth and first bicuspids? My front four teeth look great, it's the size and shape of my other teeth that bothers me. I've had them bonded but my tooth shade is very white and the bonding seems to look more yellow'ish.

A: Veneers on Canines and Bicuspids to Improve Smile

We frequently place veneers on the canines and bicuspids (side-teeth) for patients who like their 4 front teeth, but want to build their smile out to broaden it.  It can usually be accomplished with no-prep veneers, so you have no grinding of your natural tooth (or very very little polishing of the tooth surface).
