Should I lose weight before SMAS Facelift and Submentoplasty Neck lift? I am having a Face lift & Neck lift & Brow Lift is being covered buy Insurance. Should I loose weight before having anything done?
If I don't loose weight now and loose weight later will my new face be all saggy?
Thanks
Losing weight after having a face lift will definitely contribute to more sagging of your face after the surgery. Loss of volume causes sagging whether you have a face lift or not. So I definitely recommend losing your weight before the surgery. However, the goal is to lose your weight to a level that you can comfortably maintain. If you cannot maintain the lower weight and you gain it back after surgery, you may as well proceed with the surgery and enjoy its benefits now.
The best weight loss probram is eating heathfully, meaning eliminate the simple carbohydrates and saturated fats. One effective plan is to put on your plate 2/3 vegetables (not including a potato or white rice) and 1/3 lean meat or protein. Also routine simple exercising will help, even rapid walking or using the stairs instead of the elevator. Best of luck with both your face lift and weight loss.
I had a SMAS Face Lift, Brow Lift, and Liposuction under my chin in June 2008. The scar in front of my ear is perfectly hidden on one side, but is very visible on the other side. What can be done about this? I have been given cortisone injections on my neck and behind my ears because the incision scars were thick. Do I need scar revision or some kind of laser treatment for these scars?
Facelifts with or without a SMAS plication use the same incisions genenrally, so the scar is unrelated to the SMAS. Scars from facelifts are usually imperceptable. Ocassionally, however, somene will develope an unsightly scar. Forget the laser. The scar must be revised and all tension taken off of the scar closure. This should give you the best chance for a good scar. A post-operative silicone cream or gel may also be a good idea to minimize the scar. Good luck.
After being closed, my cheeks started bleeding (while I was having my eyes done) and both were reopened and suctioned. That was six weeks ago, and I'm experiencing increasing lumpiness (mostly small bumps under the skin)and have had slight indentations on each cheek since the surgery that have not gone away. Does this sound typical or more like aggravations from the reopening; in other words, should I be worried?
It was certainly imperative for your surgeon to reopen your incisions if you had excess bleeding. A facelift requires lots of elevating of the skin and bleeding can occur. Facelifts without bleeding can be a little lumpy for several months because of the deep sutures and movement of tissues under the skin. I would wait several months before worrying, but why not visit your plastic surgeon for his opinion? I would expect this lumpiness will resolve with more time. As a matter of interest, before any future surgery, be sure to stay off of any aspirin products, Advil, Aleve, fish oil or Omega-3, vitamin E including products with vitamin E such as Slim Fast and multivitamins, and Garlic. This is a long list, but all of these cause difficulty with your blood clotting system, thus more bleeding. Good luck.
