At my consultation my dermatologist wanted to use sculptra to restore volume to my face. I wanted more immediate results, so I chose radiesse instead. While I see a difference in my face from the radiesse, I think I would like to try sculptra to see if I can get more volume than I have from the radiesse. Being that I just recieved the radiesse treatments a month ago, would it be too soon to start the sculptra treatments?
Yes. However, I prefer to inject the Sculptra close to the skin and Radiesse near the bone so they are not mixed in the tissues. Other fillers are immediate and Sculptra takes a few weeks to start volumizing. However, some areas are best injected with Sculptra such as the broad cheek areas in front of the ears, and Sculptra is the longest acting of the fillers with the exception of Artefill.
Why do some doctors only inject sculptra at the front of the face and not at the sides? Is it because this would involved superficial injections that would risk showing lumps if they formed?
Most definitely. In my opinion, and I have been injecting Sculptra for over 7 years, it is one of the best products for the lateral part of the face. This would include the large depression in front of the ears, in the hollow area lateral to the brow, and along the jaw line. Volumizing these areas helps reduce the jowls and helps tighten the neck. Regarding depth, Sculptra can be injected just beneath the dermis of the skin and is also effective when injected near the bone. The latter is indicated in the cheek bone area and the anterior jaw (called pre-jowl sulcus). As we age, we lose volume in the subcutaneous tissue, the thickness of the skin and in some of the facial bones. Sculptra is an excellent over-all vomumizer. It should not be injected in the lips or in the muscles around the eyes, as this may cause lumps.
What are some of the differences between sculptra performed in US versus Europe?
The effectiveness of Sculptra treatments are related to the doctor , not the country. Sculptra has been used in the USA for o ver 8 years. It is not the easiest product to use, but when used properly can be very effective as a volumizer. I have used it foe over 7 years and most do my patients are elated. It's benefits are that it is long lasting. If used around the eyes, however, it can form lumps if injected into the muscle. It must be injected under the muscle in that region. I inject Sculptra virtually every day and haven't seen a nodule in several years.
