I've been considering skin resurfacing, but there are too many choices. What is the best method? Laser? Chemical peel? Facial? I have relatively good skin, except for a couple of indented scars and uneven tone. I'm nervous about any treatment. I don't want to damage my skin to fix a few irregularities. (Same question, but I've added photos!)
Your two issues are tone and scarring. For the tone and overall complexion, I would encourage you to use a tretinoin cream on a daily basis. Working your way up from there, you may need to add bleaching creams as necessary. These can be irratating so try them on a small area first. When trying to balance out the coloring of the skin, using a sunscreen on a daily basis is vital. This helps to reduce future damage and minimizes stimulating the pigment cells that are active now. Hormones can also stimulate the pigment in the skin. You may find that improving the tone may bring you to a place of comfort with your skin.
If the scarring is still a concern, you could try fillers to plump up depresed scars, nonresurfacing lasers, or the grand daddy of all laser treatments is the CO2 laser. Just looking at your pictures, I would probably lean towards the first two options.
I'm 28 and looking for a laser treatment that addresses fine lines, mild acne scarring, and sun damage and tightening. I've had micro laser peels in the past and was not too impressed with the results. My biggest concerns are the lines/small folds under my eyes, fine lines from nose to mouth, and overall texture/tone. Would Active FX or Fraxel CO2 be effective for my needs? I would prefer a laser that only requires 1 or 2 treatments.
For younger patients looking for significant improvement in texture, tone, and fine lines, the fractional CO2 lasers are excellent. They can provide significant improvement in 1-2 treatments and do not have signficant downtime. The difference between the micropeels and fractional CO2 lasers it that the CO2 penetrates the skin deeply enough to create the thermal injury that stimulates collagen production and tightening, which the micropeels only resurface the skin with little deep stimulation. There are a variety of name brands that create the same effect.
I had a rhinoplasty a couple of years ago. For about a year afterward, my face was swollen. My skin looked tighter and younger. Friends and family thought I looked ten years younger. What causes this? Did the tissues of my skin swell? Is there a way to reproduce this effect without going through surgery?
Yes, you can add volume to achieve a more youthful face without surgery. If you liked the suble difference due to swelling associated with your rhinoplasty, you probably would be a good candidate for Sculptra, an injectable filler that provides long lasting resulting by stimulating your own collagen production.
In fact, one of the ways of evaluating the effect is simply to inject saline as a trial to see how you like the appearance of more volume. Fat transfer is also a reasonable alternative, but is more involved in terms of down time.
