Im 34 year old female. I had orthodontic work done 5 years ago with 5 teeth extracted. I ended up with a flat profile. I lost support of my cheeks. My jaw and chin area looks like an eldery person without teeth. I also have dents on my cheeks that looks horrible! What kind of procedures helps to restore the dimension of my jaw and chin area?, and can the smas lift helps with the issues that I have? Please help! Thanks.
A SMAS facelift is designed to tighten up loose skin and restore it to a more youthfull appearance. If you have a loss of volume, then some type of filler may be useful to restore that lost volume. Transferring fat to your face would be one good technique to use. Fat is your own tissue and will last longer than the more biodegradable fillers that are on the market. You can also use more volume when it is your own fat. Another possible option would be to use Sculptra. Sculptra injections result in your body filling in the depressions with collagen, again your own tissue with more permanent results.
Normal for intermittant swelling around the ears 6 months p.operative? I have swelling in the area where the SMAS was lifted sometimes more than others. It has been 6 months and although no one els may notice I feel it.
Like all operations, swelling may persist in subtle form for months. Most of the time patients are completely presentable in about 2 weeks, but there will be changes gradually occurring over a longer period of time.
I would like a face lift, mainly for jowls but I also to correct other problems. I have an old fracture to the zygomatic arch on one side resulting in some inflammation/small indentation. I have been evaluated for this by an oral surgeon recently who said it would be a major surgery now and inadvisable. Good functioning. I also have TMJ w/some occ. swelling and problems with the position of the discs, fairly well controlled through exercises I learned in physical therapy. Is this contraindicat?
A deep plane (SMAS) facelift is executed nowhere near the TM joint. I can't see any reason why it would be a contraindication to a facelift. I would be curious why your oral surgeon thinks otherwise.
