Four Weeks, Two Weeks and Why?
Photofacial (IPL, intense pulsed light) is a great office treatment for brown discoloration in the skin from sun damage, red discoloration from tiny blood vessels, and for lines and wrinkles. A series of treatments is needed, generally spaced 3-4 weeks apart. You will notice initial darkening of any brown spots on the face, which will then flake off after a few days. There is no downtime, as you can cover with makeup immediately after treatment.
I'm not sure I understand your question regarding "reading results" of photofacial. You will see a change in the reds and browns in the face almost immediately, with gradual improvement after that. Again, a series of treatments is needed, and maintenance treatments are needed as well--this is part of a solid skin care regimen for many women. It's not a one-time thing.
I am going in for Botox (second time/forehead only) this weekend and also want to get a Photofacial soon (not the same day; the machine is not available).
How long should I wait after Botox before getting the IPL treatment? Obviously, I do not want to affect the Botox injections and look weird! Thank you!
You should have the photofacial done first, then have the botox done. If the treatments are done on different days, the order doesn't matter. Why isn't the IPL device available on the same day as your Botox?? I'm confused about that. In my office, the IPL machine doesn't leave--I own it and use it frequently!
What's the difference between IPL and a Photofacial?
IPL and photofacial are terms for the same treatment: non-laser, light-based skin rejuvenation. The treatments mostly correct color (reds and browns), and give some texture improvement. "Fotofacial" is the trademarked name for IPL or photofacial done using Syneron's IPL device.
