I've heard that very few women are good candidates for a mini tummy tuck. That being said, I am 30 years old, 5'3" and 122lbs. I am in pretty good shape and exercise often.
I gained nearly 50 lbs during my pregnancy 10 years ago and I HATE....I repeat....HATE my stretch marks. While I do have some loose skin, it's not to the point that it's saggy or wrinkly. Overall, I'm mostly unhappy with my stretch marks. Any thoughts?
As you may know there are no medical treatments for stretchmarks. So the only way to get rid of them is to "cut them out". Of course, the maximum amount of skin is removed during a full tummy tuck (all the skin from the belly button to the pubic hairline). With a mini tuck, the maximum amount of skin that can be removed is at the most half as much as a full tuck. Therefore, to maximize the amount of skin (and thus stretchmarks) depends on if you have enough skin laxity on top half of your abdomen to replace what has been removed on the bottom.
I am soon looking into a tummy tuck but I do not have all the lose skin allot of other women have but looks like my ab muscles are messed up allot higher then a mini tummy tuck would cover any insight you can give me would be great thanks :)
Most tummy tucks require a long incision to remove excess skin, as well as tighten the muscle which has loosened. You don't have any excess skin, nor any excess fat. You do have a weakness or stretching of the fascia, the very strong tissue that surrounds the muscles to pull them back together to flatten and strengthen your abdomen. You will require an incision below the panty line to get access to the muscles. This can be difficult because this tightening has to be done from the top of your abdomen to the bottom. Have a consult with a board certified plastic surgeon who has had experience with this procedure.
Is recovery quicker when you go through the belly button during a mini-tummy tuck? Is the belly button detachment purely for aesthetic reasons?
The belly button is either not detached at all or detached at the abdomen wall with a mini tummy tuck. This will lower the belly button and generally only treats the lower abdomen. With a regular tummy tuck the belly button is left attached to the abdomen wall and a new opening is made in the abdomen flap which is lifted and advanced over the belly button. This type of tummy tuck addresses the entire abdomen. Donald R. Nunn MD Atlanta Plastic Surgeon.
