Is it true that jowls can reappear just a few years after a lower face/neck lift? i know a few women to whom this has happened. They are older than I am, and had more jowling to begin with. I am not yet 50 with very little jowling and neck skin. Can I hope for a longer lasting result?
The key to this question is stipulating that while a lower facelift can give you a much younger look, it does not stop the aging process. A neck lift is a great procedure for individuals with more advanced signs of aging, and can turn the clock back up to ten years. However, collagen production will continue to slow with age, meaning that the elasticity of skin will continue to decrease as the years pass. The result is that skin will eventually begin to sag again. However, if the procedure is done correctly and in-line with the patient’s individual profile and cosmetic goals, the effects of the aging process should be staved off for longer than a few years. In your situation, it sounds like your skin is in fairly good condition and would respond well to the effects of a neck lift, if that’s what you’re interested in. Make sure to research your plastic surgeon thoroughly and check out his or her before and after neck lift photos and patient testimonials for examples of his or her work.
I'm 44 and had a breast reduction in 1989. The procedure was successful aside from needing radiation under my breasts for keloids. As I am older now with sagging skin I'd like to reduce my breasts slightly as well as lift them and am wondering if I could combine such a surgery with a lower facelift. The facelift would be much more minimal than the breast so I'm wondering if I could combine the two or whether it would be too complicated/dangerous. What do you think?
I often combine surgeries so my patients have only one recovery period. A breast lift and facelift sound like a reasonable combination, assuming no medical reasons otherwise. This also assumes that your surgeon is skilled and efficient, so the procedures can be done well in a reasonable length of surgery time.
So, yes, combining the two is an option. Be sure to consult with surgeons who are Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Best wishes.
I'm 44 and have noticed the oral commissure starting to drop. I have considered filler in this area but I'm not sure which one is better. I've been told that I need a lower facelift to eliminate jowls and tighten my neck, yet another consult told me I just needed filler. I just had a 20% TCA peel done 2 months ago along with IPL, Fraxel and Accent. I see no improvement from any of these modalities. I'm not sure what to think at this point because I'm not sure what I need done. Thank you.
It is no surprise that the Fraxel, pulsed light, and the others have had no effect. In my opinion, you would be an excellent candidate for a full faclift (lower eyelids down to the sternum). It will fix the marionette lines, change volume distribution in the face, fix the sagging neck, and establish a straight jawline. Furthermore, your skin seems to be in excellent condition so you should expect an excellent result.
